SINGAPORE: A 17-year-old Republic Polytechnic student has been charged with punching one of his schoolmates in the face, fracturing an area near the eye.
Tan Jia Hui, who's a second-year student, allegedly hit 19-year-old Ng Ming Yang, at Building W1 of the polytechnic's Woodlands campus at around 4pm on May 6.
Tan has claimed trial and the case will be mentioned again next Tuesday.
If convicted of the offence, he can be jailed up to seven years and fined or caned.

Is it bcoz the punch is something to do with BGR thing, whether peeping the 2 "dunno do wat" or this victim attempted to woo his gal or similar?

On surface it seemed so. However, that chief gets 18 strokes of cane, which is like only raping a daughter / mother will get one and this punch people one, up to 7 years in jail, but maybe no cane, or possibly 3 strokes max.

RP actually had many excellent achievements in 2010!
for example,one of the RP student- Yip Pin Xiu, the 50m backstroke gold medalist at Beijing Paralympic, received the Singapore Youth Award in 2010!
Besides, 2 RP students- Surani Perera and Tan Hui Min received Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship to Encourage Upgrading to pursue their degrees at NUS and NTU respectively!!
RP students are actually doing well in academic and CCA!
