Students in Shanghai outscored their counterparts in more than 60 countries, including Singapore, and attained top marks in an international education test held recently.
STOMPer Kiasu says the results, which were announced in a Straits Times report, serves as a warning to Singaporean students to buck up.
According to the report, the Shanghai students outperformed Singapore and emerged tops in reading, math and science.
Singaporean students also scored well in all three categories, ranking fifth in reading, second in math and fourth in science.
Both Singapore and Shanghai were first time participants in the Programme for International Student Assessment (Pisa) 2009.
STOMPer
Kiasu says these results show that very soon we might be seeing
Singaporean mothers accompanying their children to China to pursue their
education there.
The STOMPer says:
"China has consistently proven itself to be a education powerhouse.
"Now
that Shanghai students have topped other countries' students in
reading, math and science, I think it's only a matter of time before
other states in China catch up.
"Right now, we see Chinese 'pei du ma ma' (Chinese mums accompanying their children) to pursue their education in Singapore.
"But
in a few years time, I anticipate that there will be Singaporean 'pei
du ma ma' ( Singaporean mums accompanying their children) in China!
"Singaporeans had better buck up!"

whats the point u get high points in spore???what counts is connections n not high points.
fuck u lar
aiya
compare wat.
Seriously if the kids can study well with good education policy, condusive environment, it's more impt.
But they still cannot make any progress in higher institutions, they can only do well in primary or secondary school. Losers.
the continuing arrogance and elitist attitude should not be taken as an acceptable confidence yardstick but rather overconfidently ignorant that Sg is the best in Asia...
China used to be ignorant with the concept of ä¸åŽŸ..where all things begin and revolve...that they are the most enlightened and civilized ....not until the west caught them with greater technology and renaissance...they pay a terrible price for that....and now the dragon awakes....
likewise...the paradox of success and complacency can take root in any country and this would lead to ultimate destruction
Ability to score in exams =/= work productivity and conduct.

how true.
No matter how good their school results are, it doesn't change the fact that PRC people are barbarians with poor conduct and behaviour.
I think they will be better off studying books written by confuscius etc that teaches them to behave themself

the attitude of many singaporeans also arent good.
the PRCs may have a lot of 'bad habits' but they are more aggressive and competitive.
singaporeans generally are too timid.
Not to offend the locals, sometimes, I really find prc studends very smart. Just like in pr school where my son took his psle results, several of the prc classmates score really very well. Dispite they are 2 yrs older them the rest.
Prc generally do well in their studies.
I also remind my kid to look at them, and to pace against them. For Even if my kid go to sec school, it will be better if there are foreigners studying there, you can pace them along.

it isnt just that they are smarter. but they are really hungry for results.

They have the 'om' to excel and hunger (agree with you) to really study hard.
That is why it is good that there are prcs and foreigners studying the our local schools. To make the locals awake.
Haiz.... China is everywhere these days.

Why dont you tell your kid to make them pace against him/her instead?
Not everyone stay around to complete, life is more than a competition, a competition is only a subpart of life, while not advocating people not to compete, but that's why most people leave Sunkapore, it a race to nowhere.
Wow n Wow,
Singapore students lose out to PRC students,
Singapore working adults lose out to better and cheaper PRC and India FT.
Boy, Boy, Girl, Girl, Papa, Mama, all must study and work hard if we do not
want to become 2nd or 3rd class citizens in Singapore.![]()
