THE average cost of electricity is expected to increase by 3.3 per cent from Jan 1 to Mar 31 2011.
For example, families in four-room HDB flats will on average pay about $3.15 more a month on electricity charges.
The electricity tariff for households will increase by $0.0076 to $0.241 per kWh.
The tariff revisions are due to a rise in fuel oil prices to US$99.45 (S$128.88) per barrel.
The following is the breakdown of the electricity tariff into its four components:
1) Energy Cost (paid to the generation companies): Increase by 0.76 cents per kWh to 18.9 cents per kWh. This component is adjusted quarterly to reflect changes in the fuel and non-fuel cost of power generation.
2) Network Cost (paid to SP PowerAssets): Unchanged at 4.92 cents per kWh. This fee is reviewed every year and has been reduced by 10 per cent since Oct 2008.
3) Market Support Services Fee (paid to SP Services): Unchanged at 0.22 cents per kWh. This fee is reviewed every year and has been reduced by 21 per cent since July 2009.
4) Market Administration and Power System Operation Fee (paid to Energy Market Company and Power System Operator): Unchanged at 0.06 cents per kWh. This fee is reviewed every year to recover the costs of operating the electricity wholesale market and power system.

Stop blaming the government. We have got to stop exploiting the environment and underpricing the risks of harming Mother Nature. It's time we pay our price for our careless wasting of fossil fuels. It's right to increase electricity tariffs so that we as consumers are encouraged or even forced to seek for efficiency in electrical appliances. You can stop your bills from rising by simply using less electricity by changing your habits and also getting more efficient appliances.
mooo.

1) Use candles at night.
2) Take showers only in the afternoon. (no need to use heater)
3) Avoid staying at home at all times. Morning 10 am to 10 pm stay in the shopping centre.
4) Sleep naked so that you can use a non-electric fan to fan yourself as you sleep.
Or best still, strip to your undies and sleep at your house downstairs like this.
hey, elections around the corner. gahmen should give even more utilities rebate. i an still coinsider not using my srtistic sketching skills on the vote coupon if got more handouts.
No la. The government is not doing anything to safeguard our interest. Want to suck our money. We are rich but stingy. Nvm let wait and see.
The increase is in line with the fuel hike experienced by high demand in the states and europe. Which is good news for my company, and more good news for me come june 2011.![]()
look.. if we discovered cold fusion, they'd still be raising the tariffs
Believe a not, they will keep on increasing till they swallow you. If nuclear powerplant, i think also got excuse to increase the tariff. Deny them 1/3 of in the parliament sit and they will eventually wake up and make up their fucking idea.
