A 20-YEAR-OLD man who might have passed on a sexually transmitted disease to a teen he had sex with was given 18 months' probation on Monday. He could have been jailed for up to 10 years or fined or jailed and fined on each count.
The full-time national serviceman had earlier admitted to two of five charges of sexual penetration of a minor in October 2009.
The court heard that he met the girl, then 14, through a mutual friend. After getting her contact number, he started sending her text messages. He found out that she had had no sexual experience before. He asked her to be his girlfriend. She agreed.
Two days later, she went to his home and the pair had consensual sex.
About a month later, they again had sex at his home.
On Dec 30 that year, she went to see a doctor at the polyclinic after experiencing pain while urinating, but left without doing the urine and pregnancy tests. She had told the doctor that apart from the accused, she did not have sex with anyone else. In January last year, the victim was examined by a doctor in hospital and found to be suffering from chlamydia which the accused was found to have had.
