Thousands flock to gamble at integrated resorts

SINGAPORE: Thousands flocked to gamble at Singapore's two Integrated Resorts hoping that the start of the Year of the Rabbit would bring good luck and fortune.
And it was all smooth going despite the crowds.
Those who came to gamble at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) did not have to wait long to enter the casino hall.
Unlike last year, the queues this time were smooth flowing.
The resort said it installed better signages, more queue poles and deployed additional manpower in and around its casino.
RWS said some 500 of its staff from various departments volunteered to manage crowds during the holidays.
"It's all hands on deck to ensure that our guests have nothing less than a good experience. We have what we call a Chinese New Year incentive whereby this is on top what they get for their overtime pay. I think this is a positive reinforcement, positive incentive for staff to come back," said Robin Goh, Resorts World Sentosa's assistant director for communications.
Punters were generally satisfied.
"Last year was very crowded, the queue was very long. Now, it looks better already," said one punter.
RWS said more than 55,000 people visited its casino and other attractions on Thursday.
At Marina Bay Sands, it seemed to be a far quieter affair despite it being the first Lunar New Year for the Integrated Resort.
The company did not want to disclose its visitorship numbers for the festive period.
An average of 25,000 people visit the casino daily at the Marina Bay Sands. The number is even more especially during the Lunar New Year period at Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa.
Large crowds are expected to continue streaming into the casinos over the long holiday weekend.
