NEARLY half of Singapore's residents are not happy with the chilly indoor environments they deal with regularly, due to low air conditioning temperatures.
This is according to a poll of over 450 people in Singapore conducted by WWF Singapore for Earth Hour 2011.
As a result of the low temperatures, many have faced health problems, such as flu, cough and dry skin. The poll was set up to determine how comfortable people are with air-conditioning temperatures in the country and to help encourage individuals and organisations to set their air-conditioning temperatures at 24C or higher.
Some 52 per cent of respondents felt that cinemas were too cold; offices and schools followed closely with 40 per cent indicating the same. Almost half of the poll takers compared the temperature in their office/school to 'Autumn in Seoul' (where you could find the temperature ranging from 5C to 15C), while one in four likened it to 'Winter in Siberia' (where it could range from -23C to -45C).
To further encourage energy saving, WWF Singapore plans to launch the '60+' iPhone application, which enables users to 'check-in' their planet-saving acts to earn badges and achievements as well as share their achievements through Facebook.
The Government has been driving efficient use of energy as a key strategy to mitigating emissions in the country.

450 only? and "nearly half!!!!"
umm... I want my air con to be 13oC at least! ![]()
So this is the excuse they use to shut off the aircon in mrt trains making the whole carriage hot and stuffy? ![]()
Too cold not happy, too warm also not happy.
Singaporeans, when will you be happy? ![]()
For me it's just that is important that air circulates, some switch off the aircon in the enclosed office and although it is not cold anymore but the air doesn't circulate.
Singapore is island of the tropical penguins.

The cinema air-con is just nice
Shopping malls are either too warm or just nice.

Office air con always very cold, dunno why i always find myself sitting near the air con...
surprised no one mentioned bus air con in the morning, when you can see the vapours on the windows but the air con still on full blast, then ppl sit on the outside seat, make things inconvenient
air con has become a subjectivity issue...some like it hot, some cold....some hot/cold....cold but not too cold....various combinations and permutations....
of course.....indoor air quality has certain quantitative and quality yardstick to advise....23...
