KUALA LUMPUR (Malaysia) - A MALAYSIAN Cabinet minister who represents women's interests has pledged to disprove a male legislator's claim that women are sloppy drivers who contribute to road accidents.
Shahrizat Abdul Jalil says she has asked police for accident statistics to prove that most women 'drive carefully and politely.'
Women's groups have criticised lawmaker Bung Moktar Radin for claiming this week that women are inattentive drivers. He made the comments during a parliamentary debate on road safety.
Ms Shahrizat said in a statement received on Wednesday that Bung Moktar's comments hurt many women's feelings.
Bung Moktar was forced to apologise in 2007 over disparaging remarks he made about a female lawmaker's menstrual cycle.
