Editor's note:
The international community is paying close attention to the BRICS summit of emerging economies taking place today on China's Hainan Island.
The BRICS countries - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - want more say in global economic and political decision-making processes that have traditionally been monopolized by the G7. And they increasingly have the economic clout to back up their demands. BRICS accounted for 18 percent of global GDP in 2010, and that figure is expected to grow to 47 percent by 2030.
