my relief also do the same , tiak , fill in another $1 , both of us happy . Both of us not too calculative about diesel , just not too ridiculous , we're ok .
hi all seniors & new bird,
i m really surprised to find this forum while surfing for more info on becoming a cab driver.
would like to find out what is the fastest timing from application from lta, online test to getting the TVL.
currently running a very small biz on my own & due to the downturn...need more $$.
all advice is deeply appreciated
Hi sienta,
I believe the fastest is about 3months on average.
For my case, i applied from LTA during mid July and received their reply in 1st week of Aug. Thereafter, i went for my online course and the excursion date is 18th Oct 09.
From what i heard, the instructor mentioned that the test date should be about 1 week after the excursion date which is 27th Oct and it is normally conducted on Tue /Wed.
Hi Sienta , yes online has to be the fastest .
But i saw some went online still need 7 times to pass a test , it's tougher than u might think .
of course , still got majority passed on the first outing .
I suggest online .
Take classes type of course is really meant for those hse no PC one , got PC dunno how to use Internet sort of people . And those got problem with English , must translation by instructor type .
If u can use internet with not much difficulties , and has got a good PC at home or office , yes online is the best , most convenience and most efficient i guessed .
I old method la , 2000 syllabus , no internet , all classes .
My classed at Marsiling MRT .
From 7pm to 9pm , Monday to Friday i think .... everyday for 3 months . What the fuck , right ?
hi poolman & ck,
tks for the prompt reply.
i've send in to LTA just last week so probably get their reply by mid oct (hopefully).
see if i can work towards getting it before christmas this year (if i can pass the 1st time round).
been driving for the past 20 years (in sales line)..hopefully can help me to get around in the future.
for relief cabby, what's the average net intake a month if work 6 days a week?
like me , sales line did help me alot in this trade .
Cos we know inside out all Singapore routes . And we certainly know how to communicate well , without inviting too much complaints , we can manage from black to white easily . We can talk our way thru ...
In sales experiences , u had curb taxi dvr's biggest problem , those routes and shopping centres , and office towers , shopping centres etc ... u are half way there .
next u need to curb is to know those lobangs which a must know for taxi drivers .
Airport what time need lots of taxis , town which area got good trips , town which area which time must avoid etc .....
Depending on what time u start everyday , if start at 6am , if day shift , til 5am , i would say , base on what my buddies did , nett say daily $120-$150 averagely .
I mean really try your best , lunch time 30 minutes or less , seldom smoking break , seldom toilet break etc .
And peak hour must really capitalised .
For night shifts , i dunno , i seldom stay all night long , 12am i head to base , i usually touch $110 nett salary .
That is from 4.30pm to 12am . Except friday , i stay longer .
My target daily is nett $100 salary , some of my friend stay a bit longer , take home $150 quite normal .
It depends on your mind , how much u want , not how much can u get .
It tougher for day shift , cos the taxi is full strength , as in at least 25,000 on the road daily .
Night shift is less tough , except 5-8pm , when the strength is still there , but after 8pm , most regular OMOs go back home liao , peak hour finish , they also finish .Then there is a surge of demand , not surge of demands , just that i would say 30% of the total population actually go home liao , taxi lesser , easier to do connections .
That why i can get $180 collection quite effortlessly just base for 7.5 hours .
