I got encountered twice that cab drivers purposely drive a longer route to the destination.
so can complain against the cab driver? I can understand why they do it, as longer route will mean extra few dollars, but as a passenger, I dun like the idea of taking me for a ride.
wud u like to share where u were going and wat route was taken?
from paragon taxi stand, want to go to 30 orange grove road. the cab we took drive to bukit timah and then to stevens road. he can just drive to scotts road and then go to stevens road what.
bukit timah and then to stevens road? wah lao eh. bandit sia that driver haha. my route wud be paragon >> cairnhill rd >> scotts rd >> turn right stevens road >> orange grove rd.
my guess is u took during the day? no $3 surcharge? so the driver sian liao , so short a trip so expand a little for u haha.

ya the way he took sound stupid....blame who lo u say, maybe he Q so long kena this kind of tai ko trip...
drive day very chum one. haiz tio this kinda trip really can cry. imagine say paragon Q 20 mins then go orange grove , meter should be less than $5.
something should be done to the fare structure for day drivers really. they work more for lesser fare, need to withstand heat , traffic jams etc etc. and also i heard day pax all sibeh knn one esp morning ones , all in a rush , they late they will chase the TD to drive faster. not to forget those market aunties , one time put some smelly fishes in the boot , the day is gone liao.
So in future , if you know the route , say it !!!
Like : " Uncle , pls go by Cairnhill Road , at Scotts Road turn left , U-turn at Stevens Road , then Orange Grove Road , got it uncle ? "
If u chose to keep your mouth shut , pls bear with those consequences .
All drivers has got different knowledge of Singapore roads , all our fingers different length , so u dun expect all cabbies to do the same route everytime u say it .
There is not such thing like " Standard route " for all Singapore roads .

I just kenna a tai ko trip from Serangoon Gardens to Mei Hwan Drive by angmo who ta bao a filipino back home at night. Fare was $3 or $4. Very sian.
poolman is actually condoning the driver for a blatant attempt to cheat? because i've actually told a driver before and i ended up being nagged and nagged for the whole trip... i was pretty pissed off but left it at that...
just coz being a cabbie is a tough life, doesn't mean that the world owes you a living and you can cheat to earn a few dollars more..
that being said, i've also come across another type of "cheat"... driver sees a traffic light, he purposely slows down drastically so that the traffic light turns to ember then red by the time he reaches the traffic lights.. so much so that a 15 minute trip turns into a 30 minute trip..

Well I also kenna before ah...
Too big group so we took 2 cab from Bugis Parco to Tampines Interchange...
The first cab, my fren told the taxi driver go by which way, the unker keep nagging and nagging that he knows, he drive for dunno how many years already etc etc...
The 2nd cab, we sms them abt the first cab so they no one said anything... But end up they went to bishan then to tampines... FWAHHH~ Beri LONG way sia...
And it was ehh... ... during chinese new year if I nv remember wrongly...
Btw, to all those in the Taxi Forum... I usually see the word "OMO" ard... wat does tat means?
Maybe the taxi driver is new and dont know the shortest route. Maybe he knows the route. It is your duty to direct him if he seems to be going the wrong way. Going a round about way is really not the best way to earn more. It is the wrong method actually.
For me, I only pick up passengers where there is at least a $3 surcharge. The flag down fare is too low. Garment increase every fuck bill and bus fare except taxi. They want to earn more but assume its ok for TD to earn less. Flag down fare of $2.80 or $3 with no surcharge to anywhere in Singapore is too cheap and not worth my time at all except for the old unker taxi driver who needs enough to eat, drink, smoke, toto, 4d and newspaper.
unfortunately for the few of us here, there are many such unkers out there ![]()
ya lor. Garment makes us TD suck thumb. We TD also make passengers suck thumb by pretending not to see them flagging for us just outside CBD, or by having our coffee break just before midnight. I really have no interest fetching cheapo passengers. Maybe I should just drive a Chrysler. That way the cheapo pax see aleady also siam. If they flag me, at least I know they got money and maybe some tips for me. Tio bo?
Come on lah, so many white collars retrenched in the last few years and ended up as TD. That guy might be 1 of them and really don't know the route well. If you're not happy, tell him and see if he offer you a discount. I always tell this kind of pax to "pay what you normally pay" and take it as school fee to learn the new route.
BTW OMO is One Man Operation. It was used in the late 70's/early 80's when SBS buses started to take away the bus conductor from their buses, leaving the driver to do all the shit alone.

strange.. maybe we should do what the UK does for people applying for TD licenses...
and with that, TDs will also have the clout to go and demand for higher fares...

one-man-operation
the best I encountered, took me on a special route from raffles city to clementi..more by a few $$.. Called to complain, and the operator told me taxi doesn't exist. I was like "huh??"
In all, I met good/ not so good TDs, and vice versas lor. The key is how to do damage control la. No need to destroy your day by such ignorance lor.
oh okay... thanks alot for answering my question...
