Fellow cabbies,
Among various jobs, taxi driving is a rather hazardous job. More so if we push ourselves to earn more. I have always told myself that I must be prepared if I meet my fate on the road (choi choi touch wood). As careful as I try to be, one never knows the future because other drivers can make mistakes.
1. Have u ever wondered what happens if you are a single bachelor TD with no close relatives?
If your body is not claimed within 24 hrs, it will be used by surgeons to practise on.
MEDICAL (THERAPY, EDUCATION AND RESEARCH) ACT
(CHAPTER 175)
2. If you are a non-muslim, did you know your organs will be forcibly removed and transplanted into a suitable recipient?
HUMAN ORGAN TRANSPLANT ACT
(CHAPTER 131A)
Now I have nothing against helping other people who are dying, but hey taking my organs out even if relatives object can be very traumatic. So I have chosen to opt out here.

That way my family is free to either donate or to "sell" my body parts.
So is it better we smoke heavily drink heavily so can spoil all our organs???:p
FT , your body fats also can donate ?
Then PM Lee will give you a big medal .
How difficult is it to identify your body? Got finger prints, Singapore citizens bingo in a few seconds. Only unidentified, unclaimed bodies are considered for medical uses. Only after attempts are made to trace relatives. They are also selective, only certain bodies are used, and sometimes only certain parts.
Unclaimed bodies are either cremated or buried, depending whether they are identified or not.
Organs of raod kills are seldom harvested. The person must die in hospitals to qualify.
You don't want to donate when you are dead, means you don't want to receive when you are alive.
Why so negative?
How many taxi drivers actually meet their fate on the roads?
i am no taxi driver but i want to give my input.
they say don't speed on the roads. but i rather drive fast to reach my destination & spend less time on the road.
less time on the road means less exposure time to anything that can happen on the road...
driving is a hazardous job. never know if any other motorist is distracted by anything and lose concentration for that few seconds and just hit you..
last night i saw this driver who just went through the red light. he was most probably looking at the green traffic light at the next junction.. this was around 1am..
there was once i was in a taxi. the taxi driver almost knocked down an old woman. i screamed as i was too scared. the taxi driver told me not to worry, he said if the old woman's time is not up yet, she would not get knock or even if she got knocked down, she would not die. i think it is up to individual to believe a person's death is kind of fated.

don't need to be scared. It will be the taxi driver who will go to jail for knocking down the old woman not you

i was worried that the old woman would get knock down and also worried for the driver because it was actually the old woman's fault who did not look out before crossing.
each time when accidents happen, many people will blame the driver which is not true all the time.
well this is due to the driver negligence and not the jaywalker . Unless there is a witness which will help the TD.

The most common type of organ transplant is the kidney. HOTA only covers kidney, liver, heart and corneas. So as far as organ donor priviledge goes, it mostly applies to kidneys.
If one is poor, one is unlikely to be able to afford the waiting time for say a kidney. For many poor people, early death may be a more attractive option than a prolonged life that results in even more financial difficulties.
If one is rich, buying a kidney poses little problems.
The highest chance of finding a good organ donor-recipient match is from one's siblings. For such cases, dont even need to queue up if the sibling or relatives are willing to help.
Waiting list for a kidney is in term of years. This organ donor priviledge act benefits only a small minority of people. Have you seen the anguish on the relatives faces when their loved ones die, and the surgeon shoos them away and remove a kidney from their deceased loved one?
Really all these laws are only concerned with helping out the medical community. The surgeons need corpses to practise on, the organ transplant team needs ready access to fresh organs to ply their trade. The plastic surgeons need bodies to perfect their art. But the medical community is not willing to pay for dead bodies. A fresh corpse is worth a lot of money. Why else is the SGH mortuary surrounded by high fences with many red notice boards saying "protected place". The mortuary is actually the most secure place in the whole hospital. Why? Because dead bodies are more valuable than living diseased bodies lying in the wards.
yeah i agree. Should I lost my kidney one day , I just wait for the time to go. No point wasting money coz i know i got no money to survive the ordeal. All this is wayang to protect the rich.
As a living citizen, we already have to work our socks off to contribute to our families and nation.
Can you imagine when we die, some medical pro using our corpse to perfect his art and of course we dont even get a cent. Not even a burial. The SGH mortuary has its own cremation machine to dispose of such corpses after they have been cut up and examined by practising surgeons or pathologists.
these medical ppl r pure assholes......
