Premium taxi starts at $5

I flag and took a black premium taxi at Shenton.
The metre starts at $5 and a surcharge of $4.75 immediately.
I was told that the distance charge is 30 cents instead of 20 cents per 100 metres.
I was told by the driver that there are only 100 premium taxis in Singapore.
The taxi fare ($32.50) was doubled of the usual fare ($16 - $17) but there is no
difference in the service
or travelling experience ie no TV or DVD show, newspapers or magazines etc.

Ya, I took it at Shenton Way at about 6.45 pm.
But why the premium taxi charges are so much more when there is no difference in service or travelling experience ?

It's a SMRT Chrysler C300. $5 was bcos it's a high-class limosine cab. But I would rather sit on a SilverCab Skoda Superb, it's faster and cheaper than Merc cab.

well nobody force him to take the taxi. How come he is not aware ? He can ask the TD b4 he board the taxi. Hmmm.... it is coz there is no taxi at that time ? Why is he complaining after he take the taxi?

Maybe he boarded the taxi and thought that he gets the best of all luck, but when the metre was on, he regretted, too paiseh to come out again.Well, you got to pay for what you get, the TD also have to pay more rental to get a premium cab, be fair to TD.

I did not pay much attention to the taxi as there are many different colour taxis ie blue, yellow, yellow-top, red, silver and so on. So, I just flag the taxi but when I am inside the taxi, the driver switches on the meter and the metre starts at $5 and the surcharge is $4.75 immediately.
I was too paiseh to come out and I was not sure whether I could just come out as the metre had already been swtiched, so I just took the taxi lor.
The driver told me he pays $145 per day for the premium taxi as compared to a rental of $80 - $110 per day for an ordinary taxi.
Indeed, the rental is about doubled and the taxi fare earned by the premium taxi driver will be doubled too. $32.50 for the premium taxi trip to an usual ordinary taxi trip of $16 - $17.
I will be more careful when I flag another taxi now.

On paper, the fare should be only about 1.5 times nia, how come it was doubled? The taxi driver gave you tour going through "premium" road is it?
And after all this, there was no difference in service ?
Those cry-si-le drivers really think they can take us for a ride?

Maybe they drive through red carpet...Just few days ago i saw 1 cry-si-le at T1 first taxi lot its was already midnight. The driver wear like he's working in Shenton way.
