Hi
Can any TDs advice me on the below situation?
I just applied to returned the cedric back to SMRT today after 6months of driving. So my actual day of returing the vehicle would be 3rd Sept. But I was told by some TDs that getting the security deposit back is somehow going to take quite some time. Getting the full amount back is somehow going to be quite difficult as well. I would like to know if by defaulting in daily rentals, would i still be able to return the taxi on 3rd Sept? Or will they not allow me to return until i clear my outstanding rentals?
Any advice here will be appreciated. Thanks!
oh dear oh dear ....
Prepare to get humtum hard .
And let us know outcome .

hi guys,

Bryant
How long is your contract with them? 6 months? 1 year? Also, during this 6 months, are you involved with any accidents or not? If have, then good luck. I read from postings here that even if you are not at fault, SMRT will still keep youy $1k until, I think, 6 years later. This is unless you agree to sign a from discharging them from any liabilities on any future claims with regards to the accident.
I know what you meant by owing them rental until the full $1k is wiped out, whereas you just take these days with rental owed and try to make money on the road. This, I'm not sure how it work but am also interested to find out too. Just in case I kenna the same thing in future....
Hi guys,
My contract states that if drive less then 6months deduct $300, if more then 6 months deduct $50. More then 1 year full refund of $1000. Im not involved in any accidents, but the MRT officer told me they need to take 3 months to process the refund of the 1k deposit.
like Mr bobby toon suggest, i was thinking of wiping out the 1k or at least wipe out half the deposit by defaulting in daily rental. Cause i don want to wait 3months .... but worried they wont allow me to return the taxi on 3rd septunless i clear all outstanding rental. Anyone does this before? any advice or suggestion?
Penalty is $50 for >6 months < 1year contract for hirer.
It is good to know that there is no own fault accident claim on your part.
SMRT will refund you the $1k but I'm not sure will they refund your course fee if you have taken the course with them for driving <1year.
I know of ex-SMRT drivers who defaulted on the daily rentals when they returned their taxis to offset from their deposit & no problem with it.

Uncle Pool, pls don't be too harsh.
You are frightening other newbies. Haha!
Anyway, I believed all taxi coys are about the same.
That is, they will only take care of their bottom line.
So we TDs have to take care of ourselves.

So Bryan, may I know which taxi coy are you switching to? Or you quit?
lol yet another smrt driver returning vehicle after 6mths
anyway not to worry bryan, they will deduct the outstanding rental from your deposit, and also the $50 if u have completed the 6mths
just throw the key back to them & walk off
i got my deposit back within 6wks
no worries
There goes your confirmation.
I have heard both positive and negative comments about returning cab from SMRT. I heard if you are upgrading from cedric to better cab, then usually no problem, but if you are going out of SMRT, then they will try to "make you stay". Speaking to one of the TD while I send my car for maintenance, who drove Crown and return few years back, and now starting to drive crown again. He said he got no problem in returning the vehicles previously, they will ask for the reason for returning, just try not to mention that you are leaving for another coy. Good luck!

They will try to find fault on your vehicle to try not to refund you those $1500 deposit .
Like measuring the diamenter of the exhaust pipe .
Like jacking up your vehicle and check under carriage .
Like holding on your deposit for 6 years ? Due to accident previously unresolve ?
Just those infos i got from those forum's former-SMRT drivers .
That is why we need you to update us .
Good bad , just let us know .
Good things nobody wanna share ?
Bad things just humtum ?

I have said before. They (SMRT) have a 6" diameter magnifying glass to look for the slightest dents/scratches on the car's body.
My friend returned his Cedric in 2005 and somehow they managed to squeeze $40+ from the car with this 6" magnifying glass.
CDG is very lenient in accepting returned taxi. They understand that the car is meant for "tan jiat", sure got minor dents/scratches on the body. They dun penalised these minor defects.
