Princess Mononoke which literally translates "Princess vengeful spirits" Hayao Miyazaki is a Japanese animated film. It was released July 12, 1997 in Japan. It was produced by Studio Ghibli.
At the time of the Muromachi period, in the medieval Japan, the prince of the tribe of Ashitaka Emishi is struck by a terrible curse after killing a boar god. It was crazy. He had become a demon. Prince Ashitaka must leave the village. The shaman said it condemned to die. He must go west to find the cause of the wrath of nature. During a visit to an ancient forest of Yakushima, Miyazaki got the inspiration for this project. The story and characters have changed many times during the preparation stage of the film. It will be three years in the making.
The landscapes of the film were inspired by the forests and mountains of Yakushima Shirakami-Sanchi.
Much images of history have been hand drawn, but computer graphics has been used for a few scenes, including where the arms have Ashitaka and scenes showing to demonic, which blend traditional design and graphics. Miyazaki personally checked each of the 144,000 cels of the anime and was redesigned about 80,000.
Mononoke Hime has been the movie event of the decade in Japan and the first Miyazaki film to be distributed worldwide. It is only justice: this film is a stupendous masterpiece, an inexhaustible wealth of unprecedented gravity.
