  Princess Mononoke which literally translates "Princess vengeful spirits" Hayao Miyazaki is a Japanese animated film. It was released July 12, 1997 in Japan. It was produced by Studio Ghibli.

  At the time of the Muromachi period, in the medieval Japan, the prince of the tribe of Ashitaka Emishi is struck by a terrible curse after killing a boar god. It was crazy. He had become a demon. Prince Ashitaka must leave the village. The shaman said it condemned to die. He must go west to find the cause of the wrath of nature. There, may be the last hope is to find the reason for his curse and heal.

  
  He finds himself embroiled in a war between the spirits of the forest, and giant talking animals which must be added San, the Princess Mononoke high Moro by the wolf, and two human parties with conflicting interests: Lady Eboshi leader, the village forges that wishes to destroy the forest to allow prosperity to its people, and the samurai lord hasano, trying to seize the village and weapons are produced.

  

  Ashitaka is on the side of San, who fight for the survival and well-being of the forest. But he refuses to kill humans. Gradually, it will be seen in Princess Mononoke men in a different light ... 
  

  

  During a visit to an ancient forest of Yakushima, Miyazaki got the inspiration for this project. The story and characters have changed many times during the preparation stage of the film. It will be three years in the making.
  

  

  The landscapes of the film were inspired by the forests and mountains of Yakushima Shirakami-Sanchi. 
  Much images of history have been hand drawn, but computer graphics has been used for a few scenes, including where the arms have Ashitaka and scenes showing to demonic, which blend traditional design and graphics. Miyazaki personally checked each of the 144,000 cels of the anime and was redesigned about 80,000.

  

  Mononoke Hime has been the movie event of the decade in Japan and the first Miyazaki film to be distributed worldwide. It is only justice: this film is a stupendous masterpiece, an inexhaustible wealth of unprecedented gravity. 
  The film was hailed by critics in Japan and around the world, definitely confirms the stature Hayao Miyazaki as a master of world animation and draws him to the attention of critics in the world. Princess Mononoke is a great commercial success in Japan.

    Hearsay is the eruption that connected the island to Kanoya long time ago.

    So if you wanted to go you may do so, but this trip we didn't do it.

    The Kanoya Rose Garden

    Since opening in 1994, the Kanoya Rose Garden has become popular place for Kanoya locals as well as many tourists. The garden currently covers 8 hectares and holds over4,000 kinds of roses. The roses are at their best from the middle of April through July and from the middle of October through December.

    As well as the garden itself, there are many other facilities including; the ‘Rose House’ a multi-purpose hall and store.  There is also a restaurant that overlooks the garden. Be sure to try the rose curry and the very popular rose ice cream!

    Taipei 2012 - Shilin Presidential Residence and Rose Garden

    The Shilin Presidential Residence was Generalissimo Chiang Kai Shek's offiicial residence. He stayed there with his wife Soong May Ling - one of the famous Soong Sisters. The residence is surroundered by a garden of around 9 hectares, and located at the foot of Fushan in one of the most beautiful locations in Taipei. By the time we got to the residence, it was already closed for visitors so we could only have a glimpse outside. It would have been nice to be able to see how the Chiangs lived.     Soong May Ling loved roses so a very large roase garden was created for her. It should look magnificent in Spring when thousands of the roses bloom - but we were there at the end of Winter so the roses were just starting to bloom.

    I wouldn'st say the Shilin Presidential Residence is a must visit - especially if you can't get into the residence. But if you have the time it is a nice pleasant break from the usual itinerary.

    SHIROKUMA literally means WHITE BEAR.

     

    If you ever visit KAGOSHIMA (or Japan), you must try this. SO GOOD. Especially in summer. Helps cool you down much faster than regular ice cream! I got a coffee flavored one! Some coffee jelly in there too!

  When it’s -1°C inside your house, it might be difficult to appreciate the Japanese winter, but I am always looking forward the coldest months of the year to go eat oysters in Hinase, a small harbor town in Okayama Prefecture.

  

   

  Hinase is famous in Japan for  oyster okonomiyaki which are only served in winter, the town actually ranks ninth at the 2011 B-1 Gourmet competition.

  

  If you ever visit Hinase, you will have your pick of shops, but my current favorite is Arata.

  Arata is about 2 min from the harbor and a short walk from Hinase station.  If you plan to visit Hinase, I suggest that you go early since the place gets a bit insane at lunch time with gastro-tourist coming from far away to try the famous oysters.  I once waited almost 2 hours are Arata in high season.

  

  Arata is tiny!

  

  It’s pretty much a one room building added in the front yard of an old Japanese house.   There is 3 small tables, but the best place to sit is at the hot plate. The two old ladies running the shop are very chatty and remembered us when we walked in.

  We always start our meal with an order of oppai yaki which are simply oysters sauteed with green onions and a dash of soy sauce.

  

  Oppai in Japanese means breast and it’s a bit odd to order fried breast, but these plump oysters are incredible.

  The okonomiyaki is simple and they certainly don’t skimp on the oysters.

  

  We ate directly on the hot plate and the lady offered us a spicy okonomiyaki sauce which is pretty unique compared to the generic sauce found almost everywhere.  The okonomiyaki at Arata is a mix Hiroshima and Kansai style.  While it’s possible to order the okonomiyaki with some noodles, I strongly recommend the plain version.

  

  I will probably head back to Hinase before the end of the oyster season and trust me I will get there early.

  When I visit Hinase, I always stop at a small oyster packaging factory where we buy fresh oysters.

  

  it’s a little bit out of the way, but if you want to buy fresh oysters, there is a fish market near the harbor.

  Store information

  

  At the entrance, there is a stuffed and model of a large polar bear, and greeted the everyone. In the window of the entrance left, order (for Eating) can be handy polar bear and take away the polar bear. 
  The store is a center table seats 2-4 seater, but the private room of the parlor because there in the back, served in the relaxed atmosphere, the Chinese cuisine with a focus on dim sum.
