Watermelon and salt? Kit Kat?
Things have swerved far from the usual cocoa bean materials. I love Kit Kats, especially their dark chocolate ones but I cannot fathom the flavor of watermelon and salt. Maybe the sweet and the savory works is the key element here. Or am I missing something.
Has anyone tried this?
All things Japanese & Candy

Hanatsubomi: Steamed whole yuzu with white bean paste
Ayaichigo: Arrowroot jelly with sour strawberry bean paste
There’s a store in New York City that specializes in these Japanese specialties, called Kitchoan. I’ve walked by this place so many times, admiring the beautiful little sweets through the shop windows. There are many varieties, many of which are made with sugared bean pastes and agar-agar, a substance that is derived from seaweed to make gelatin. The most charming part is that each piece is individually wrapped in pretty little packages, like little presents. They are often served with tea as far as I understand it.
Now, I happen to love sweetened bean pastes, especially when they are stuffed in mochi, Japanese rice cakes. So I figured I should try some of these wagashi, although they are so beautiful its kind of a shame to eat them.
Starting with the Hanatsubomi:

This was actually the first time I’d ever eaten yuzu in its natural form. Granted, it was steamed, but it still retained a lot of flavor. Only problem was, there was a lot of bitterness left from the pith.

The white bean paste inside had a good texture, but it should have been sweeter to balance out the acidity and bitterness of the yuzu.
The Ayaichigo:

This candy was far too sweet for my personal taste. But the gelatin was the perfect texture, just firm enough to stay in one piece without being a rubber ball, it was slightly less firm than jello.

The strawberry paste was the part that tasted too sweet (again, just my personal taste, I tend to prefer less sweetness), and it had no sourness at all as the label stated. I found the texture of the bean paste to be a little too gritty, and it just didn’t work with the gelatin part.
I’m glad I finally gave these candies a try. For me they are prettier than they taste. For someone who would like them however, they’d make a very attractive gift.

Daruma is a doll from which Bodhidharma was made as a model. The eyes of Daruma are usually blank when sold as a means to keep track of goals or big tasks and motivate them to work to the finish, and paint the another eye when the wish is suitable.
Mame Kinton “Sweetened Small Red Bean” wrapped by Daruma paper.
Shishi is translated as “lion” but it can also refer to a deer or dog with magical properties and the power to repel evil spirits. Omochi “Soft Rice Cake” contains black sesame bean paste wrapped by Shishi paper.
Who say? ... ever see egg in this kind. Only in Japan.

Than come with this Ice Kachang.
over here very popular....
The heat and humidity of Tokyo summers can be overbearing. What better way to cool down than with kakigori (shaved ice sweets). As a child visiting my family in Japan in the summer that is one of my fondest memories. Kakigori topped with sweetened condensed milk (ask for miruku) and garnished with some sweet azuki beans. Toppings include sweet syrups, mattcha, sweetened condensed milk, fresh fruit purees (mangoes are one of my favorites), and azuki beans.
Here are some shops known for their kakigori.
