About 70 more dead tadpoles have been found in Ishikawa Prefecture, local officials said Friday, as the mystery over how they came to be in areas with no paddy fields or other habitats continues. The latest findings were in the cities of Nanao and Wajima on Thursday afternoon, following sightings of more than 100 dead tadpoles in Nanao and Hakusan last week and of tiny dead fish in the town of Nakanoto on Tuesday.
Two dead tadpoles were found shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday by Mayumi Tsuiki, a 38-year-old Nanao city official, on the roof and a door of a car parked in her home’s parking lot. She thought they might have been dropped by birds as there were also bird droppings around the area.
In Wajima, two piles of about 70 dead tadpoles were found around 3 p.m. Thursday by Nobutake Takada, a 67-year-old owner of a liquor shop, on a walkway of a bridge.
Masafumi Matsui, a professor at Kyoto University’s Graduate School of Human and Environmental Studies who specializes in amphibians, said, ‘‘It is hard to comment without actually seeing these tadpoles…but considering the circumstances reported by the media, someone could be pulling a prank.’‘
People have speculated that the tadpoles might have fallen from the sky after being sucked up by waterspouts or carried by birds.
The local meteorological observatory, however, said there have been no reports of strong winds in the area, while ornithologists said the incidents do not seem to have been caused by birds.

* Read -- UPDATE: Tadpole rain in Japan

As rainy season approaches, Japan's Ishikawa prefecture has been receiving some unusual precipitation -- it's been raining tadpoles.
According to prefecture officials, tadpoles have reportedly fallen from the sky in two separate towns this month. Although it is not unheard of for waterspouts and strong wind to to pull small fish and animals from water and drop them on land, no foul weather has been observed in the area, leaving residents baffled.
The first reported case of anomalous tadpole rain occurred at about 4:30 PM on June 4 in the town of Nanao. After hearing a strange sound outside the Nakajima Civic Center, witnesses discovered approximately 100 dead tadpoles in a 300 square meter area in and around the parking lot. The tadpoles measured 2 to 3 centimeters long.

Dozens more tadpoles reportedly fell on the nearby town of Hakusan in the early morning hours of June 6, according to local officials. One 75-year-old resident described finding a handful of tadpoles on the hood of her car at around 7:00 AM. Others were found scattered in nearby yards and parking lots. A strange sound was reportedly heard in the middle of the night, even though no wind or rain was observed.
According to Kanazawa Meteorological Observatory officials, the two towns -- which are dotted with rice fields -- experienced stable weather during the period in question and the conditions were not favorable for the development of waterspouts.
"I've never seen anything like this before," said one meteorologist. "We have no idea what caused it."

UPDATE: Asahi is reporting that more freak animal rain may have fallen in Ishikawa prefecture, only this time it is fish.
Crucian carp believed to have fallen from the sky in Ishikawa prefecture
On the evening of June 9 in the town of Nakanoto located about 15 kilometers from Nanao (where it rained tadpoles on June 4), a number of small fish were found scattered over a residential area. About 10 fish recovered from roadsides and the tops of cars appear to be Crucian carp measuring 3 to 5 centimeters long.

Saw this monster once in Japan street, now than remember.
forgot it, not too late either.
now we talks on this.
Hashiriya? Bosozukupipes? Togue racing? How unimaginative. The cool new thing in Japan is scooters. Big scooters. Big scooters with an attitude.
A word on that cool new thing part before the wicked hydraulics: a Japanese subculture which has been documented in English is by definition out of date. As for how much, you’d have to be Japanese to know and none of us at Jalopnik are, although your humble correspondent comes from a country where people write their names Japanese style (family names first). That said, video:
Big scooter subculture is apparently about taking large cruising scooters and modifying them with fiberglass, hydraulics, mad exhaust pipes, and neon tubes until you end up with something which could be cast in a Hello Kitty remake of Aliens. Complete with very serious Japanese dudes riding them.
