Getting There
The easiest way to reach the Kawaguchiko 5th Station is by bus from Shinjuku Station. In July and August there are six buses daily that travel directly from Shinjuku Station to Kawaguchiko Trail's 5th Station, costing ¥2,600 ($22/£11) one-way and taking almost 2 1/2 hours. Otherwise, there are also buses that go to Kawaguchiko Station in 1 hour and 45 minutes and cost ¥1,700 ($14/£7.15) one-way; from Kawaguchiko Station there are buses onward to the 5th Station, with this trip taking approximately 45 minutes and costing another ¥1,700 ($14/£7.15). Buses, which depart a 2-minute walk from the west side of Shinjuku Station in front of the Yasuda Seimi no. 2 Building, require reservations, which you can make at the Keio Kosoku Bus Yoyaku Center (tel. 03/5376-2222) or a travel agency such as JTB. Less frequent Fujikyu Buses (tel. 0555/72-5111) depart from Tokyo Station's Yaesu south exit for Kawaguchiko Station for ¥1,700 ($14/£7.15), but the trip takes an hour longer.
talks is easy by all the informations, doing it by your own, whether you get there, is another question.... problems who you look too. communication?
Transports and accommodations costs are expensive in Japan. Careful planning before departure will save you some money.
I took the Chuo Line train from Shinjuku Station to Otsuki, somewhere near the Fujikyu Highland and then changed to a bus to get to kawaguchiko station.Paid 10,000 yen for a night stay in an onsen hotel with dinner and breakfast. On return to Shinjuku only did I realise, there was indeed a direct bus between Shinjuku and Kawaguchiko that costs only 1,600 Yen one way.Earlier I paid 3 times more by train and bus trip.
See.... Lah, media given us today 21st Dec on national paper .... the news on page A13.

If you have more than 10 days to spend in Japan, I suggest buying a 5 or 7 days Japan Rail Pass to travel freely on trains and buses across the country.
Such JR pass can only be bought outside Japan and is only for non Japanese to buy.I think you can buy from some travel agents here like the JTB tour or maybe Chan Bros.Check out the websites for more details.
Around Tokyo, do try to stay in an onsen ryokan.Cheap ryokans with outdoor onsens can be found all over Hakone or Kawaguchiko. Those in Atami are more expensive. If nearby Nikko, can also try those in Tochigi prefecture, like the Kawaji spa,Nikko or kinugawa spa resort town.
Imagine yourself soak in open air hot spa overlooking the magnificient Mount Fuji.
Like me,if you like the old Japanese cultures or things, do pay a visit to Kawagoe, a small town north of Tokyo, in Saitama Prefecture.
Its known as "Ko Edo" or Little Edo. An old town like you usually see in a samuria movie.
Or visit the old temples in Kamakura, if you happen to be nearby visiting the Chinatown in Yokohama.
Or if you are not alone .......experience staying in one of those "Love Hotel" in Tokyo.I am not sure there are still many of those in Shibuya..........perhaps Kinwashi can show us some of those pics.

Shiratani Unsuikyo |
|
The Shiratani Unsuikyo Ravine is a lush green nature park containing a number of the island's ancient cedars such as the Nidaiosugi, Kugurisugi and Yayoisugi, the park's most accessible yakusugi which can be reached in a 15 minute walk. Shiratani Unsuikyo is one of the most popular destinations of Yakushima as it is a great place to see the forests without requiring too strenuous hiking. The park consists of a number of hiking circuits running along a ravine with English signs throughout. The recommended circuits vary in length from one to five hours long, but you are free to wander around and choose your own route among the paths. The trails vary in difficulty from a historic footpath built in the Edo Period to more developed ones paved in stone and wood.
One of the main attractions of Shiratani Unsuikyo is a part of the forest that served as the inspiration for the Stugio Ghibli animated film Mononoke Hime (Princess Mononoke). Oga Kazuo, the lead artist for the film, spent lots of time here working on sketches for the movie's forests. The mountains of the film were further inspired by Akita Prefecture's Shirakami Sanchi Mountains. The small grove is at the far end of the park on the trail to Tsuji Toge Pass. If you continue on this trail it will lead you to the Jomonsugi by way of meeting up with the Anbo Trail about halfway to the entrance of the Okabu Trail. The round trip to the Jomonsugi takes approximately twelve hours and is more difficult than the Arakawa Dam Trailhead route.

OK go back the same old story...how to get there from mainland Kagoshima.
Free and Easy...you need ferry and car to get there.
there are two kind of ferries over there one is like this kind (short fast expensive) if you are those kangchiong type.
this kind of ferry.
for us to get there... we took the cargo type (cheap slow no texpensive) but more than an hour to reach there. with extra bonus going by this. the picture. this pink colour ferry.
After the jetty uphill, there is a company with taxi and private car rental available owned by the locals from this island.
your night will be staying in this island so book your lodging on the island,
on the same day you can never go back to mainland if you want to see Yakushima the 7000 years old cedar tree and the island surrounding. You can also see banana trees plenty here. Japan banana and some tropical fruit trees. papaya, pineapple, dragon fruit, star fruit and etc.
Cargo ferry.... why? cheap lower decks are for cars and cargo to the island, upper deck for passengers, what to do with the hour journey...sleep...lah.
see those Japanese with blanket and pillow provided.
stylo tempo.
