Knn, this one really give taxi driver a bad reputation.
JAPANESE national Kenji Ohwaka left his haversack on the kerb when he alighted at Departure Drive of Changi Airport Terminal 2 shortly before 2am on Sunday (Feb 20).
When he went to look for it later, it was gone. On Friday (Feb 25), Prime taxi driver Jaffar Kassim, 38, was charged with the alleged theft of the bag and its contents.
These included Japanese currency amounting to more than S$42,000, a tablet computer, a laptop, two thumb dives, a watch, a wallet with two credit cards and other personal documents.
After realising that someone must have taken his haversack, Mr Ohwaka, 43, sought the help of airport police and preliminary investigations indicated that the bag could have been taken by a taxi driver who drove up shortly after the Japanese had alighted from the cab he had hired.
Three days later, police nabbed their suspect. Jaffar was picked up at Tampines Street 21 on the evening of Wednesday (Feb 23). Cash of $8,500 as well as several items that he bought recently, were also seized.
No plea was taken from him during the brief court hearing and he was ordered to be remanded for further investigations. The next mention of his case will be on March 4.
