THE National Taxi Association and taxi companies are aware of the issues raised by Miss Janelle Seah ('Protect cabbies like my dad better'; March 22) and are equally concerned about enhancing the welfare of taxi drivers.

ya that why this are alway the senerio. Aiya what kind of fruit tree bear what kind of fruit...mah. Still the same old tree. Haha. The father taught the son. The son taught us...how many times must we still listen and listens again. Are they not beggars. That why produced so many assholes like this kind popped in from no where everyday renewal this are good that are good.

Procedures in place to protect cabbiesTHE National Taxi Association and taxi companies are aware of the issues raised by Miss Janelle Seah ('Protect cabbies like my dad better'; March 22) and are equally concerned about enhancing the welfare of taxi drivers.
Issues such as the safety of drivers and fare cheats had been discussed and deliberated
previously at an industry level. We have also been working closely with the Land Transport Authority and the police on efforts to enhance taxi drivers' safety. Taxi companies have
mechanisms in place to help drivers deal with emergencies such as robberies and fare cheating.
As for the representation of self-employed taxi drivers, the association, which is affiliated with the National Trades Union Congress, fulfils such a role.
A key aim of ours is to make representations on our members' behalf on matters affecting them to the relevant authorities, and promote cooperation and better understanding between members and companies.

Dear Mr Kim,
While i can agreed the National Taxi Association (NTA) being affiliated with NTUC has a role to fulfill, discussion and deliberation seems to be the most common answer given.But after all these many years, yet no action have been taken to protect the risk and lives of all taxi drivers.
Taxi drivers are still risking their lives in the course of their work as a public transport provider.
Every sons and daughters, brothers and sisters of a cabby are still praying for the safety for their loved ones whenever they leave home to earn three decent meals for the family.
We don't need to see several more cabbies lose their arms and limbs, or even their lives before concrete action then be taken.
We hoped we can see some precautionary measures taken as soon as possible rather than NTA doing lip services on behalf of all taxi drivers member. Thank you.

Can cabby install protective screen on his own?
WHEN travelling by taxi in other countries, I often notice a transparent Plexiglas or plastic partition that acts as a protective screen between the taxi driver and passengers. -
Actually, back in 1997 when I visited Shanghai, I already noticed that their taxis have plastic protective shield installed. The only contact that the pax have with the TD is a small hole under the shield.
Mind you... that is more than 10 years ago when China is only an emerging economic power. The reply above by that Wee fellow basically says NOTHING at all.

Keep one of this , will be quite handy .
U just need to rehearse a bit , imagine someone from your back wanna attack you , place in a position , that u can grap in 1/4 of sec and hit back !

Attackers weakest part is position no 2 . 太阳穴
No 1 and No 3 also quite lethal , and concuss them .
No 14 is best when knuckle use .

Self defense ....... cos if u need their service to defend you , u must pay them GST .

14 if hit there they will lose balance n wun be able to move for awhile alternatively u can hit their eardrums n they will lose orientation for awhile also

don't ever hit at no.2. Very easy to kill a person by hitting here hard. Bone at nose area easy to splinter and be driven into the brain. Unarmed combat killer blow.

Just to share this, whether it work or not, my night shift kakis told me they got one of this in their taxi. according to them, those bastards will be blind if this will given to them free, direct to their eyes... yet need to try this and prove it.... till today nothing happen, so there is no result yet.
