There is a reason why such surcharge are apply, removing it will be back to the past situation. Moreover, Taxi fares are closely related to the amount of rental the company can charge, when the biggest player is belong to ................. . Do you think there will be changes to decrease the company revenue?
Taxi driver shouldn't be happy to think that we are under protection, even the fares are doubled, we still got to work out ass out to meet the cost, we are still taking all the blame by the commuter.
Don't waste your time to analyse pax suggestion, Taxi fare will never be "cheap" to them. And their suggestion will never make you a better person.

Taxi company cannot put surcharge on anything , but private call centre still works the same .
If they remove all taxi surcharges, booking surcharge must also be removed. And the starting fare and increments must go up. If they dun remove the booking surcharge, then almost all cabbies will instantly switch to TCL mode. Meaning must tio call liao then they will start engine.
Airport without surcharge means no incentive to q at airport. Airport will have massive crowds of angry tourists with few cabs coming for them. It is going to be a disaster for the taxi company PR department.
So I am confident this will never happen. On the other hand, keeping the existing surcharge system but increasing the starting fare and increment will instantly solve many taxi supply and taxi abuse issues. Taxi is meant to be a luxury, not a necessity, and must be priced accordingly.

Surcharge is unavoidable, just like you go eat restuarant on peak hr like weekends, you also paid higher amount right, be it sakura or whatever ra ra buffet, even we work on sat and sun also got double paid, so for TDs, you also need to provide them these options to gain and make a decent living. Paxs that I took are not fussing about surcharges, they just feel that there are many kinds of surcharges and confusing to them. But when you explain to them, they will understand. Maybe the authority could set up a committee to review the surcharges and set a more standardise and easier to comprehend type.

because sunday cbd is like a ghost town... no one working... so even if got $10 surcharge... any taxis will go into shenton way area?
try Q-ing for a cab on sunday nite in heavy human traffic area like orchard... u prob reach home faster by taking mrt / bus...
