Was driving crown until the rental went down to $82. Then Comfort said they need to scrap my crown and offer me Sonata @ $102. Difference is $600 a month. Split with relief it is and additional overhead of $300 each. Meter only has a 20c increase in flag down fare. I average between 12 to 15 pax a night. At 15 pax my increase is $3. So my extra overhead could be $210 or more a month.
The 'recent' fuel increase can costs me extra $250 to $300 a month.
Combined increased costs approximates between $460 to $510 pm.
A driver has only 12 hrs and the meter can only output the 'same' fare.
Don't choot pattern or as Pool says 'skills' can we cover the extra money and still not have a pay cut.
Prices of everthing is rising so fast, do you buy carnation milk or abbot's milk powder for your baby.
crown and sonata is like heaven and hell.
Over the years driving a crown destroyed my back , my right hand , my left leg . Now i cannot even bend properly .
Give u $102 sng very good liao bro. Jump to transcab chevrolet? Jasmine will tell u $115 nett kao lai $105.
Go where also the same , LPPL. unless jump to trans crown , cheap cheap $72 nia.
First batch of Trans chevrolets coming out this week , Salute those heroes and commandos who cheong for this cab. $115 everyday......... phew siong ah!
ccb
In fact the Sonata seat also not very ergonomic. Also backache and knee ache. Crown was left knee ache, Sonata is right knee ache. But the silence is way above Crown.
Anyway what I wanted to say is we really need an increase in fares to counter all these new rentals increase.
Remember before the last fare increase and cabbies cannot make enough, many resort to touting.
$115 per day ah. Those who takes them and especially if they are omo they have my utmost respect if they know what they are going into. If new drivers kena conned then I bless them.
Cannot be le, now NEW sonata become cheaper in town....
With the current COE, they sure choot pattern 1...
Those currently holding sonata nid to hold tie tie...

CDG not coming out any more new sonatas. All recycled ones.
Think about it. CDG < 3 yr mercedes taxi rental is $139, correct me if I am wrong. SMRT 2 yr old chrysler rental is $135, assuming you have been driving it since day 1.
The choice is clear. Those comfort limo drivers with a relatively new merc are paying way too much rental for a cab with a starting fare of $3.20 ?? How they survive ?

The Sonata is still the best looking regular taxi, in my opinion. The chee bo le still does not cut it. I had ridden in one and the interior is yucks too. The Wish looks very family type. Crown now looks nostalgic.
I know you're talking about rental, my Sonata is 2+ years old and rental is 102 but newer ones could be more expensive. If there are newer, newer ones......??
Hearsay the better fuel consumption of the mercedes makes it equivalent to the Sonata in terms of overheads per month.
Sales quota has to be raised 20 to 30 extra a day but number of trips/paxs, meter fare and time cannot be raised. After certain hours no pax means no pax, no point cruising or queing...not productive.
So pray to 'taxi god' for good luck or choot pattern and skills to stay near city. Take calls and kena 4 destinations and then end up in Sembawang can cause you to si kiao kiao.
You are right about the mercedes fuel economy. It is definitely better to drive a mercedes than a sonata. Personally, I would go further and say that it is better to drive a smrt / transcab mercedes compared to the comfort mercedes. The F3 plus taximeter used by smrt and transcab gives the TD more 'control' over the fare. Eg private limo jobs where the fare has been pre-agreed. Furthermore u got the $3 MBS surcharge on sat and sun which comfort dun have. Lastly, it is very strange but I find that the F3 taxi meter jumps faster compared to the F2 taximeter used by comfort. Maybe the correct way to say is that the F3 meter measures distances with greater precision, so perhaps the comfort F2 taxi meter is underclocking the real distance covered and as a result the cabby is collecting less than what they ought to. This was my personal experience. I made more driving a smrt nissan cedric compared to a citycab sonata.
The comfort limo and normal MDT bookings are really of little use in terms of improving your daily takings. If the location and timing works out, great. But most of the time, the timing, location and fare is not worth the trouble at all. I swept 99% of the time with a comfort mercedes. The only bookings that I bothered taking at all was to try my best to secure an early morning departure for my first trip the next morning, during the evening time. But this works out only if u OMO.

In the term of daily takings, yes you were right. But please also consider future takings.
