This sounds all so familiar. Know of someone, an indonesian too. She gave the taxi driver a $1000 note thinking that it is $10. And they like to carry a lot of cash, hardly using their cards. Smallest note in rupiah is 1000 rupiah, which is about 15 cents SGD.
Still, nothing feels better than hard earned money :)
