Took taxis from Bt. Panjang to Bt. Gombak central 3 times over 3 days.
1st smrt crown, meter fare $5.60
2nd comfort sonata, meter fare $5.40
3rd smart crown, meter fare $6.00.
If I go back to taxi vocation again, when my health improve, I'm very sure I won't be driving blue or yellow.
The difference of 60 cents, stuck in 2 or 3 traffic light already make up the difference. So can't really tell from your stat.
Time was middle afternoon and I remembered traffic for all trips were smooth, wasn't stuck at any traffic lights.
Meters are supposed to be calibrated, this 60cents is not much over this short trip but over longer distances and multiple trips it can total to quite an amount.
Taxi fares are already cheap as it is and cabbies would like optimised takings.
Anyway, does any drivers here who drove multiple types of taxis 'feel' the difference. Of course other than the Chrysler.
Very accurate dun worry. Every 6 months send for inspection they for test the meter for 1st km for the $3.00 then 770m for the 385m $0.20 increment.
on the way to restaurant costing $10.50
on the way back costing $5.60
why? because the first taxi driver got lost =.=
i think they are all equal in singapore but you have to consider small differences in the journey, aswell as the extra charges.
No lar , SMRT 100% accurate , the rest will be 30% lesser than standard .
Believe me .
there is secret to it, you must see the type of meter use by different company
what time press meter , how you press meter before you move off and the speed you drive all determine the different for such a short distance fare.
easily sqeeze at 20cents out for such short trip.
remember slow and steady win the race, that is how you do it to have more income
Remembered in another thread someone did mention on the brands of meters used by SMRT and Comfort and he felt that the SMRT does gives a better rate of return.
This is beyond our control, but there are drivers who run with low tyre pressure (thus more rolling circumference as the tyre is smaller) thinks it makes the meter jumps faster. And also like Angwk says 'slow and steady wins the race'.
Pool, why the rest 30% lesser than standard?

i dunno , my meter reading ... from the taximeter daily report , the reading of distance , always lesser than what my vehicle's actualy mileage .
U take one single trip with distance from receipt , against distance from taximeter , fare could be as much as 30% different , against taxis from SMRT Chevy .....
i am still trying to do more research on how to break the code of different taxi meter .
I felt taxi company are conning us with a lower setting of distance fare .
I believe the distance inside default still at 240m per $0.20 .
It should be 225m per $0.20
so far beside driving for premium as hirer, ever drove for citycab
can see the different
currently as stated every 385 meter 0.20cents........ i think phui
i take eg on two different Kia magentis i drive (using DG-2 model)
i think you don't get 20cents for every 385m zun zun.
after serveral testing, realise LTA has some torolence level on all taxi meter,
but i do not know what is the limited. current old meter still can do something on it to adjust to the closest advantage to the driver if TD know how.
eg... Kia taxi 1 10km on the odometer -- fare meter only run 9.5km
........ Kia taxi 2 10km on the odometer -- fare meter run 9.8km ( after something is being done to it)
SO can see the different get more if on long distance trip
Now driving i30 -- new meter(DG-3 model) i think LTA has make new meter harder to break.......... driving this car for a month...... have not test the distance vs the fare meter, maybe will do some testing on it when got free time.
Ha...today took a blue crown, only $5.00.
i have taken various cab often so far from clementi to hougang during midnight(same pick up pt to drop off pt) route of travelling same. so far the fare seems pretty consistent to me from $20.50 to $21.
