ON SUNDAY, I had to wait for close to an hour for a taxi at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre where I had attended a wedding dinner.
My non-Singaporean colleagues, who joined the queue at 11pm and were able to get a taxi only at 11.45pm, would surely have had a bad impression of the country.
People dressed up to the nines cannot be expected to trudge to the nearest bus stop or MRT station to make their way home.
Are commuters supposed to be thankful that because of the structured midnight charges of 30 per cent to 50 per cent, the taxis appear at 11.30pm instead of promptly at midnight?
With the growing population putting stress on the bus and train systems, it is time the authorities addressed the taxi situation. Use Hong Kong as an example - there are no surcharges and premium timings, and yet you can find a taxi anywhere, at any time.

One more here..another (kuku)....anything wrong with this?
Taxi fault....
This lady felt unwell while at Orchard Road and decided to take a taxi home.
Remember only she felt unwell tha she decided to take taxi home.

ON NOV 20, a Sunday, I felt unwell while at Orchard Road and decided to take a taxi home. I tried booking a cab via the ComfortDelGro iPhone application many times but there were no taxis available for booking.
I tried calling for a taxi without any success until my cellphone went flat. I then joined the long queue at Orchard Cineleisure where the taxis that drove up were mostly 'on call'.
I noticed that the drivers of some cabs that came in had decided to call it a day and did not pick up another fare while others specified their destinations. Finally, 11/2 hours later, I got into a cab.
When I told the driver about the hard time I had waiting for a cab, he said there were fewer taxis on the road because it was a Sunday and there were no peak-hour charges. Furthermore, he said, as it had rained earlier, cabbies chose not to drive.
Unlike MRT trains or buses which run on schedule, rain or shine, taxi drivers work at their own time. So, adding more taxis on the road will not, in itself, meet demand.
Taxi companies should address the issue of shortage when there are no peak-hour surcharges and when the weather turns bad. They should instil a certain degree of responsibility in the cabbies.

SMRT also have iphone booking mah. Also can call Transcab, Premier, if not Lake View.

I even recorded the plate number down. but i decided not to report because it's not worth my time.
Yep, we need more cab drivers in Singapore :)
if i list my encounters, i think it would take 7-7-49 days.

because up ahead of the road, there got bus stop can u-turn. So he's driving really slowly... waiting to hit 7am... ![]()
Fortunately, another smrt cab (the new purple/ dark ruby colour) come along. The engine very powerful~! similar to comfort merc power....
personally, comparing the power... both equally good. but for comfortability, the smrt new cab feels better...
if u consider the ambassadorial nature of the job, then it is....
tttan made the wisest comment.
Up the cab fare. Its the best way. Just change $0.20 to $0.30 increment. Its all we need. Its all I want to say.
Sunday @ MBS cannot get a taxi, blame it on Comfort Del Gro & LTA for not implementing the $3 surcharge like the rest of the taxi company in Singapore. The reason behind because of their own $$$ profit interest. Why just can"t they standardise the fare system and have to make things so complicated?
I think RWS @ Sentosa shouldn"t have this problem on a Sunday night even its taxi stand is located right at the basement level as there is $3 surcharge with all taxi companies.
MIW always like to make things complicated!this sec this charge, that min other charge,1hr another charge!some$0.50,$1,$1.50,$2 ,$2.30 some $4...my b next time cum out $2.99!!!hahaha!!!
Usually those people who complaint , are those who are not taking taxi frequently .
Like this chap say what 30% ?
Since how long ago she taken a cab ?
My customers , or our customers , know very well when to call and when not to call for a cab ?
So let's ignored those things .
Anyway , i love people who complaint .
This is One of the best ways to get them to wake up their fucking idea .
Did i say before i let them rot on Sunday ?
Looked like i am not the only one .
Or most cabbies read forum ? Hahahahaha
The worst thing those people can come out with , was that 35% stuffs , and end up either i have to forgo that $0.05 , or paxes has to round up to the nearest $0.10 .
Why can't they just say 30% ?

I quite friend with the ushers at MBS hotel lobby coz they frequently see my cab go in and pick their customers.

Last time tower 1 my fav on sun normally 90% of the trips swee swee 1~~~~~
All the taxi co run on the same modus operandi.
Its time they, split up the job to those strictly for cruising the streets, and those only for call bookings.
I remember at one time there was a plan to restrict cruising the streets and all taxis must be called booked. What happened to that idea?
Allow me to address a few points on this issue and also, what the future lies for TDs after the 2007 restructuring of fares.
First, as some said, increase the fares of taxis and perhap scrap all these surcharges, more will join and even drive on Sunday, fair enough, because
Based on the Labour Force Survey conducted in June, the median monthly income from work of full-time employed residents – Singaporeans and PRs – increased by 8.3 per cent to S$3,449 this year from the previous year. And this does not include the employer's CPF contribution, high Medical insurances, annual leaves, few month bonuses, MCs and all other perks in employment which can total up to $4 to 5k.
So, if taxis driver are earning below that amount, you are consider under lower wage income group. And by this Decemeber, the median income will rise further.
Secondly, taxis driver must harder to get above the median wage, and most are getting older by the years, it is not easy to drive, physically, can be stressful, it is not a 8 hrs job with 2 hours rest in between, if you do that, you surely fall far far below that median wage structure. For that kind of fares as of now, you do not attract people to be TD
And thirdly, with an influential workforce, meaning a educated workforce, most youngs will not even think of TDs, and that further reduce the TD strength, as TD get older, they have to rest more, enjoy life more and relax more often. Remember TD are overnite businessman from an unemploy condition. And as businessman, it is all up to individual on the way they do business.
That gives us a picture of a diminishing TD in near future, so unless the fares is to rise everyyear to match the median wages, the cost of living for TD is going to suffer, from high inflation to rentals and fuel, and that would reduce new intake and more throw keys, therefore the authority, have to look into it seriously, unless they got other plan, which is recruit foreigners, PRC or Indians to be TD here, then, that will be the end of TD for singaporeans.
