Cabby's story - This Article came out on ST forum Today.
'We have to give ourselves a break as and when necessary so we do not fall sick.'
MR SID CHIA: 'I am a taxi driver who has been working for the past 15 years and I sympathise with Miss Li Meixuan who had to wait 11/2 hours for a cab ('Trying time waiting for a cab'; Wednesday). Unfortunately, it is true that on Sundays, there are fewer taxis on the road as most drivers take time off to be with their families. Cabbies are self-employed and we adhere to the rules laid down by the Land Transport Authority and taxi companies. Like other businessmen, we have to take care of ourselves first. We do not enjoy medical benefits or medical leave. We do not have our daily rental waived when we fall sick, unless we are hospitalised. So we have to give ourselves a break as and when necessary so we do not fall sick. As for not driving on rainy days, it is a no-brainer - accidents are too costly. And all cabbies are given the option to pick up or not to pick up passengers - as long as they have a legitimate reason.'
I am surprised ST put an effort to publish an article posted by a taxi driver .
Well done ST .
Hospitalise no need pay rental ah?

Well done ST .
Why not ?
Well said.... Mr Sid Chia..
Hopefully, that will not encourage Public Transports to recommend more new taxis on the road. ![]()
.
Sweeping floor on Sunday is also very tiring... no extras surcharges... si pei sian...
.
That's why paxs must be "educated" to call-booking for a cab if they wants it urgently.... if not... keep waiting...
(just like the youtube)...![]()

Orchard Road at this festive-seasons will be a nightmare to all drivers (not only TDs). And attenting a Call-Booking at Takashimaya will takes more than the usual waiting time... Most TDs rejects Taka calls becos Orchard Link is a choke of blocks.

TDs bought insurance lah....(from TD company). Hirers will have more benefits.
ST do publish articles from TD but rare.
Reason may be letters from TD are run-of-the-mill and does not offer a fresh perspective.
