This forum is so active, it is interesting to read the various opinions from the perspectives of a TD. So my question is:
What would you consider to be an ideal customer?
Polite, pay with cash,... what else? How else can non-TDs help make it a more pleasant ride for everyone?

Polite , not particular about routes .
Of coz not particular doesnt mean TD can take pax for a island tour.
Tips would also add to being an ideal customer.
For me as long pax pay cash. No cashless transactions please . This method only helps the operator and I dun like the idea.

Ya, many occasions i have did that "scold govt together" and always give tips to me or keep the change. Damn good feeling.

an ideal or perfect customer is one who demands every cent of it...
Keep quiet type .
Never talk on handphone type .
Just say destination .... quiet all the way , regardless of route i used .
End trip pay me , that's it .
They do me a favour to keep quiet all the way is worth more than money can buy .
if can give them discount and can get them to shut up , i will do that !
maybe too many years in taxi driving , all the while dislike talking politics in cab .
got talk lar , but i try to keep quiet .
ideal customer
1) No feeder service for taxi (within CBD during evening peak is ok), you might spend $3 more, but i lost $3 more for taking you.
2) No alighting at carpark (less then 50m is ok), especially basement carkpark.
3) Those staying in landed property (above 50m from the main raod), please buy yourself a car.
4) if sharing cab, please do it during midnight.
5) if you are drunk, finish your "merlioning" at the pub, they are responsible for selling you liqueur.
6) Know the wonder of money. Money can buy anything, that include my attitude.

I deal customer (in descending order):
1. No yaya papaya, act sart or treat driver like slave or servant. I very choosy come this, if I can second guess pax by body appearing going to be like this, I immediately avoid. (Ex cop training come into use here) You jump like monkey, flag with leg or put nose very high touch the sky never mind, I got no standard to fetch you. Thank You.
And there's certain FTs (who tend to work in IT) who is my last choice of pax. Sometimes even after midnight also, I got reject. 1 time take from Redhill at 1.30am go Sengkang, then he on board he ask can Net, I say sorry not working. Actually I didn't want to fetch him, but bo pian drop the 1st pax, turned round saw 3 of them right in front of me. Although can go atm or lan lan pay Nets, I see his pattern I don't like, I say sorry my Net spoilt, pls take another cab for these transaction. That week my MDT everyday got problem, suka suka hang, so I don't care he complain, complain lor, really MDT got problem what., also I know how to make MDT got problem for cases like this also.
2. Pay fare by cash only. (Correct amt, no big notes even better, although doesnt really matter). However I understand if the fare is high like over $23 or more, he short, too tired after work go atm and wants to pay by card. Fair enough. Students also chin chye, if I prepared pick you up means, I mentally already prepared for Nets, so I not upset if pax pay by Nets.
3. Either he/she allows me to take my own route (fastest or shortest their choice), or directs me clearly in the way he prefers. (I don't mind this, because he's paying, he can choose his own route but must say clearly).
4. No Merlion in my cab (at all times, if possible). You want Merlion, go outside, not with plastic bag inside. (although bo pian sometimes) You Merlion, your vomit si bey chow, plus got germs surely. You want to smell and breathe that? If you drive your own car, I sit inside do that how you feel? Sure uneasy right? Your prescious car some more, got bad lingering smell or worse germs, you cincai ah? No right? So taxi driver also human, pus our body weak because of sitting all day, no exercise etc, everyday all this germ accumulate, we kena sick. No MC, no free medical ok.
5. No eating at all times in the cab unless you got ask me for permission. Because you eat, you drop bits or leave rubbish behind, kachua come, very irritating and unhygienic. Buy packet food pls close tight tight, dont make my taxi smell of char kway teow or whatever. Drink is ok, just don't spill unless water.
6. No talk very very loudly in your own foreign language. I know I sound fussy, but sometime you tired, these ppl their language must shout one, you kena also your headache come. The 4 national language in Singapore I accpet, because grow up got hear all 4. Chinese dialect is also acceptable because that is normal until the Speak madarin campaign came. But if speak other foreign lauguage normally, not so fast and loud like bullet train, then I dont really care.
7. Got children, please control them. Dont let jump up and down or scream like monkey. I no more policeman, so no need for them or you yourselves give me your fingerprints on the window glass.
8. Enjoy the music or listen to your own, also can. You want to use your hp one is okay, I music lover any music, I can appreciate one. You want to talk to me also can, but please no need to ask very personal question, like how much your earn. 1 FT type like to ask where I from originally or my father mother. This is not as innocent as it sounds, because they still practise certain type of ppl higher and some lower. So from the name and location they can check see if they higher.
For me I do not usually mind if pax asks to go by a certain route. Unless I know that route got traffic jam or ERP, I will just follow their instructions. If pax boards the cab and say go by this that there, I will just oblige.
What annoys me most if when lady pax of a certain color board my cab and say go by this way even though they paying flat fare. Saying is one thing, but their tone is different. They maciam ORDERING me. If they say CAN YOU PLEASE go by this way in a nice tone, no problem. But they sound like giving orders, very unpleasant. This type of pax, I never push card. Faster unload and run. Please do not call me again.
Frequently I get pax who are very noisy too, 7 seater mah, sure they talk cock sing song along the way. But it is a minor annoyance.
The only thing that bugger me till today are pax who ORDER me around. Hourly disposal no problem, ORDER all you want. $50-$70 trips also can ORDER me around, but hor $45 trips better don't anyhow ORDER me around. I will not show not my anger, just simply ask them to pay extra if ERP or Traffic jam.
Agreed with pool is that the customer to keep quite.
As a newbie, I also hope that every customer will be able to direct me to their destination so that less conflict. I already kanna drop passenger in my first day of TD on last weekend.
Although is a few hour of drive last weekend,and I think really it was tough to be cab and experience is really need to gain day by day. Ha Ha.

last nite got a good customer ( i wouldnt say ideal ) , pinoy lady hop into my cab . Hellooo Uncle how are u , can u take me to bencoolem pls?
It is really a short trip from middle road but the tone and her cheerfulness rubs on me . Even if its a $6 trip , it still feels good and gives me the motivation to ply more.
