hello,
looking for some info from the veterans on this forum
while driving in front of Tiong Bahru Plaza (just before the bus stop in front of the plaza), I drove past the traffic light when it was red. I had my sun protector down and unfortunately my view was obstructed and I missed the traffic light. I realized something was amiss, lowered my body to peer through the protector and saw the light was red. Very lame scenario to me, couldn't believe it actually happened!!
really shocked, since I had no intention to even beat the traffic light and was travelling at around 50 km/h then - I should have noticed that. I went to google the road (where they take the pictures of the road), there is no 3-arrow pattern and there seems to be no camera. Still it offers little comfort to me since such mistake should not have happened in the first place!
I have these questions that perhaps somebody on this forum knows something about them:
1) I'd like to know how long it will take for me to know if it's really recorded by TP. been reading widely on the Internet; some say it's 2 weeks, some say it's 2 months. What is the typical waiting time?
2) Since I'm still on p-plate, will the demerit points stay for the next one year since the offence date? e.g. if the offence happened on 25 October 2012, the demerit points will remain until 26 October 2013, meaning I will only have 1 point to spare until that date
Or the demerit points will be reset to zero when the driving license is 1-year old (e.g. if the license is issue on 1 June 2012, the demerit points will be reset to zero on 1 June 2013 instead of 26 October 2013, meaning I will have back 12 points to spare or 24 points to spare)
just want to have some clarity here since that computation seems to be a mystery to many
3) Some say that it's possible to appeal through our MP. is this possible?
still wondering what happened to me on that day that I didn't notice that traffic light
Thanks to those who read and offer your helpful pointers to my queries.
Q1... if you were noticed by enforcement official, 2 weeks to 2 months.
The rest.. see http://driving-in-singapore.spf.gov.sg/services/Driving_in_Singapore/information_dips_about.htm
Btw, beat right lights is 12 pts and $200 fine.
Never like to drive with "sun protector" down...not safe. Go install a tinted plastic strip on top windscreen instead. Cost $12 to $15 nia.
TS if really tio...........
Need not go Ubi to appeal..........
Techo, thanks for the tips. really take up to 2 months to know?
Was told that there is no camera in front of the plaza.
This kind of unnecessary mistake really makes me annoyed - it could have been simply prevented
If chinese got chance. Indians no chance.
My advice is "Drive Carefully"!
Why take the chance?
Are you Indian or chinese?
Hello,
Really up to 2 months?

if really Tio......
then... dun drive for 2 years.... BEST ADVICE..... if not, if you tio (any demerit points) again.... P-Licence colder than water.
Only those whom need the driving licences for livinghood (eg taxi drivers, priavte bus drivers, lorry truck drivers) can appeal (thru your MP) from immediate suspension (after getting 25 demerit points).

if notice by TP sure chase after TS what. if there's no TP around and no red light camera, TS is safe.
2 months? got so long meh? Govt. agencies are very on the ball when it comes to collect $$$, and dili-dali when comes to give $$$. since beating red light got fine money, i give them 2-3 weeks.

I remembered some of my summons came after 2 weeks and the longest was 2 months later.
They sent you the summon and said something like "you were observed to cross the double-white lines a xx location on yy time and at zz date."
Then ask you to pay fine..even if you dun remember, you wanna fight the claim??

I ever kena red light cam and tried to appeal.
Officer explained that they always give the benefit of the doubt to the driver.
If summon issued, means they are 100% sure and case is water-tight and bullet-proof!
Dun try to contest in court.

observed? they only use their eyes but no take photos. like that we can say, TP/LTA can suka suka pluck one number plate ramdomly and shoot fine. that's why if any offence is made and seen by TP, they WILL GIVE chase.

Next time you kena, try lah...then tell me the outcome!
if this is how our law enforcement agents work, there will come a day where there is abuse of power...
so the pain goes on.
up to 2 months; they really know how to punish you with "silent treatment".
read somewhere that if you pass the line and reverse (so not to obstruct traffic), no summon. is this correct?
lan sai lah, no flash, no camera, no enforcer, fine ki lan...no fine lah, just drive carefully nextime.
Dun worry
You all think I'm joking?..........
Free, please go down to Traffic Police HQ at Ubi, level 1 Appeal Room, and see the sign outside, what is written on it............
provided the police guard outside is willing to let us in just for this reason.
