that's why don't follow behind large vehicles...
when approaching a traffic light JUNCTION( T and cross) slight look around you, whether ur in a pack of a traffic, if ur dun need to worry abt light turning amber then red soon.
if ur a lone vehicle in front or behind or empty road around, slow down enough to stop in time. If by the time u reach the middle of first and second white arrow still green, floor the gas quickly clear the junction.
when approaching a pedestrian controlled(whatever it's called) traffic light, u check if anyone is at the traffic light post. if got people be prepared to stop anytime.
I did my contribution to this topic here, does anyone have better idea how to 'read' the mind of traffic light?

large vehicles is useful sometimes in 'covering' u up in certain situations, if u know what i mean.
I normally look at the pedestrian crossing light (the one facing me). If green man blinking with seconds counter, then can estimate whether in time to cross the junction or not. If no counter, and green man is flashing or red,be prepared to stop.
Some time back, someone suggest using counter system for all the traffic light in Sg like our Malaysia counter part...........
LTA rejected and give funny funny reasons..........
Good revenue mah........although they know that many are bother line cases..........

if the seconds counter left 2 sec left, i would usually start to stop. 6-8 sec is a comfortable timing for me to go thru the green traffic light. But for some junctions without counters , some junctions no pedestrians ard to press button so no green man at all, how u do abt that?

counter system would help motorist hell lot and reduce fine incomes for cheng hu. of course u would expect them to 'leave some' to tan jiak mah.

Let go accelerator and slow down. Once passed the second arrow still green, step and go. And i always try to avoid, where possible, following behind bus, lorry, van.

Actually, it's a fantastic solution to solve beating traffic light problem..........
Just JB alone, very rare, you will see motorist chionging red light.........except the counter sometime too long..........

i rather have longer counter than to have 12 points leeched on me for one year.
never follow my three arrows theory ?
my three arrows theory attached a safety formula . . . dun follow too near vehicle infront .
I have one great ideal for not beating traffic ligh..... thats is.....
STOP when red light.
tats why i never kena 12pointer before . . . 6 pointer max for speeding with two crowns lol , never with sonata . . and once wif a wish 2000 inside kpe tunnel , ridiculous 70km per hour phui
for my three arrows theory , i have to thank my private car driving instructor . He is superb . All his safety tips save my life . . .

three arrow theory
if you can't stop right away, left or center also can, as long you stop

U are behind a container trailer, a big lorry or a bus that blosked yr view, they drove through u just followed.Sometimes the slow vehicle in front just passed through before turned red ,but by the time yr rear wheels reached the traffic light it turned red,so u are caught.
Actually if u follow what they taught you in driving school will never beat red light one, for me i never go "normal" driving school. LoL

Yes, this one the best, if follow and within road speed limit confirm will never beat red light camera... If you past the last arrow, nearest to traffic light, no matter what speed you go sure no camera flash..
For me the 2nd arrow, i release accelarator and standby on break, do this also good prevent car behind hit ur backside. Touch 1st arrow (nearest to traffic light) i accelerate ( if traffic clear ah! )
Don't say road speed 70 and light change too fast, all the traffic light in Singapore adjusted to the speed of the road it's on. 70km/h road the amber to red take a longer time then a 60km/h road. Except for one traffic light at west coast highway which i think changes too fast.. LoL
And also it's not immediate red then flash, there is about 0.5sec delay before the red light camera sensor activated.
Lavender/Serangoon junction...
nvr nvr try ur luck at tis junction even u follow what chief said what 3arrow...amber light u chiong too bad behind car oso chiong u kena oso...

If I remembered my defensive driving theory correctly, when you hit the 3rd arrow (the one farthest from stop line), ease on the accelerator and if the lights remain at green, you can safely proceed across the junction at the prevailing speed limit.
I still practise this approach everyday.
Never "floor the pedal" across traffic junctions as some suggested here..you know the possible outcomes right?
And there are some idiots who jam brake when at the stop line and lights just turned to amber!
Travel by Expressway all the time, then u won't meet any traffic lights junction....! Just be alert when approaching the traffic junction, keep to the left lane if u r slowing down (don't be a road hog and endanger other road users).

save your life or saved your driving licence ?
