Singapore has been ranked 20th on a list of the world's best taxi services, according to a survey by Hotels.com.But when it comes to weird behaviours on the back of cabs, Singapore's taxi drivers say they have seen it all.
According to a Shin Min Daily News report, Singaporeans' most common activity in the back seat include texting and sending emails.
But other more unusual behaviours witnessed by cabbies include kissing, and even changing their babies' diapers. Drivers here say passengers will usually make full use of their time.
Said one driver, Mr He Guo Guang, 52, "I once drove a pair of tourists to the airport. They were kissing non-stop in the backseat. I was embarrassed, but there's nothing I could do."
TransCab Operators' Association secretary, Mr Patrick Teo, 49, said he has witnessed passengers clipping their nails while riding in the cab.
Some picked up after themselves, while others simply left their clippings behind, said Mr Teo.
The survey by Hotels.com also revealed that many passengers do not mind sharing cabs with strangers.
The survey was conducted in July 2012, with a sample size of more than 1,600 respondents across 28 countries and cities.
Travellers voted on the world's best taxi services based on the categories of “Cleanliness”, “Knowledge of the area”, “Quality of the driving”, “Friendliness”, “Safety and Availability” and “Value”.
London took the top spot for the world's best taxis, followed by New York, Tokyo, Shanghai and Bangkok.
Hotels.com also dispensed some expert tips and advice on how to hail a taxi in each of the top 5 cities.

The worst so far in my cab is this ang mo guy fingering his local indian gf while i driving..

Hotels.com partnered with Dean Foster, president of Dean Foster Associates, a global consultancy specializing in cross-cultural information, training and research, to provide expert tips and cultural advice for how to hail a taxi in each of the top five cities.
#1 London
Big and roomy personal cabin in the back, with jump seats for the kids, doors that lock and unlock every time the driver accelerates or brakes, and a personal privacy switch you can use to speak – or not – with the driver, whenever you like. Bags will be stashed with travelers in the big personal cabin behind the driver, not in the “boot”.
#2 New York
It was also rated the best city for availability of taxis.
Tip: Probably the sole place in the world where, no matter the corner or time, travelers can simply walk to the curb, stick out an arm, and hail a cab. Avoid “shift time”, usually around 4-6 p.m., when taxis passing by are “off-duty”. New York recently overhauled its taxi fleet, so most cabs are smaller, yet roomier, and very high-tech, allowing credit card payment, and providing TV entertainment. If paying with a credit card, be sure to ask the driver when entering the taxi if it is working. Sometimes the system is down forcing travelers to pay with cash. (Singapore also most cab change shift 4-6pm)
#3 Tokyo
Most drivers don’t go by house numbers so the destination’s address, unless it is an iconic landmark, probably won’t mean much to the driver. Before leaving the hotel, have the concierge write down, in Japanese, the intersection, any identifying nearby landmarks, and, if possible, a small map, to be presented to the driver. (Singapore also most new driver ask for intersection/landmarks)
#4 Shanghai
Drivers don’t speak much English, so before leaving the hotel, have the concierge write down in Chinese the destination name and address on a card, then present it to the driver with two hands. This shows respect, and will please the driver which is desirable, given a local habit of taking passengers to their destination the long and more expensive way. Also, take a hotel address card along to present to the driver that provides an easy return taxi trip to the hotel. (Some TD in Singapore oso no speak Engrish)
#5 Bangkok
Bangkok also topped the list for best value for their cabs.
Bangkok usually sets the standard for the worst traffic in the world. Take a tuk-tuk, a kind of motorcycle with a small one or two passenger compartment attached to the back. The advantage of the tuk-tuk is that it can scoot in between traffic thus actually getting travelers to their destination in a timely manner.

Average to obtain the license to drive a cab took between 3 to indefinite years, some take for life also cannot make it...........
One had to know London inside out...........
And normal citizens there DON'T suka suka take the cab because is farking expensive........
Cab drivers don't even need to drive around city aimlessly for fare..........
A distance from a reputable hotel to Heathrow Airport(like from MBS to AP in Sg) cost me 70pound, and their rental pay daily is almost same as Sonata pay over here...........

Yah i heard london cabby during course have to ride bicycle around and locate place and route, like treasure hunt..
That "report" is base on travellers voting/survey on Hotels.com. So not really a good base to rate taxi service.

Bkk cabs good??? cheap maybe like, but those vios and altis sit few big size ones, cannot even move fast. all cng, and if you got big bags, you open the trunk of vios, see one big CNG bottle, how to put??

My god, never notice, they rank Shanghai Fourth?????
Most of the condition of their fleet of VW taxi are worst than our Toyota Crown leh...........
And when the driver ask you to get out..........they mean it...........
Some even smoke while you are on board.........
Most of their taxi, heater are out of order, if Winter time, it can be quite suffering to sit in one............either they close up all their window become very stuffy, or they wind down become very chilly.............
Ask the TD anything..........å��é—®ä¹�ä¸�ç”.............
Biggest denomination is 100 rmb, you try give them 1 to pay for fare.........all the mother, father language all come out.............

yah talked to my UK guest tat day when doing arrival, their TD takes at
least 3-4yrs to pass the course called "The Knowledge" which has a very
low passing rate compared to our so kelong course here..............
