Google Maps finally offers voice navigation in Singapore
Android users in Singapore are finally getting turn-by-turn driving guidance from their smartphones today, years after the feature became available in the United States and several other countries.
This essentially turns just about any Android phone out in the past few years into a GPS device that offers voice prompts, for example, in finding a route between Orchard Road and Beach Road on a Saturday.
Early this month, Google had reportedly added Singapore to a list of countries where it offers this navigation feature over its Maps app for Android phones. The company then seemed to back track on that temporarily, only to finally go live with the service here today.
Besides drivers, the service also offers directions to users who just want to, say, take a walk around town. This means if you are lost sometimes in town – the city is changing so rapidly – the voice prompts will assist in getting you where you want to be.
To make sure you get the new Maps feature, simply update the app. Other than Directions, there will be a Navigation option when looking up a place on the map.
One misconception about Google Maps is that it always requires a data connection. You can actually store large parts of a map on your phone for offline usage. For example, the entire Singapore map roughly takes about 12MB of space if you choose the “Make Offline” option from the app’s menu.
Don’t forget, of course, to turn on GPS on the phone. And get a car charger, if you use the feature often. There are some handy tips here from CNet Asia’s Michael Tan, who’s a fan of Android and Google Maps. -

Yup have but cannot use in Singapore and certain countries. The one people usually use is Directions, put start point and destination then it shows list out which roads, turn where, etc.
But 4-5yrs back i think already people come out with unlocked version so can use navigation worldwide, i tried for a few months did not like cos back then the map still not updated.
Then i think last year i try again, but still not as good as the GPS i currently use to give up trying.
Google maps very very good but in US..

Haha bro tzarh, i'm also using it as reference only. Just to know whereabout. Cos pax will go different ways.

He needs to know, like some newly open spas now got funny names,...so must find the direction.
What maps, learn the hard way, one month get lefts, rights and centres, then all kinds of maps inside your brain already.
Sometime a pax will show me his hp map, cos ah pek me only carry nokia cheap phone, I see also blur blur, so ask him where he wants to go, please do not show me map, my NSEW orientation very poor one, topo also go wrong., he said, Ming Wah hotel, then I asked in a fierce tone..geyland is it? My favorite, then we both laughed and start to talk abt chickens

Fyi. Dun buy iphone 5 any time soon, a lot of ppl complaint about hardware issue. Samsung galaxy note 2 worth invest.

Anyway, they never ban Google like what North Korea did, in fact, North Korea totally ban internet..........only recent years, getting slightly better...........
PRC only kick out Google Office.........

Buy Galaxy Note 1 , now cheaper .... Note 1 not as good as Note 2 ( speed wise ) , but size very good .
Smaller than Note 2 .
I also got a S2 ..... nice phone .
