SMRT wage protest sees no show by 60 drivers
Posted: 27 November 2012 1109 hrsSINGAPORE: SMRT confirms that 60 of the 102 drivers involved in a wage protest on Monday did not show up for work on Tuesday.
A statement from SMRT says that some 60 drivers "did not turn up for work in the morning, some of whom have valid medical reasons."
SMRT adds that some bus services may have been affected on Tuesday morning as a result, and it has activated other drivers to assist.
"We continue to keep our communications open with the Service Leaders, and are also working with the relevant authorities to find an amicable resolution," says the statement.
According to TODAY tweets, police are at the SMRT's rented dormitory for its drivers in Woodlands and two police cars are spotted.
The tweets also quoted an SMRT source as saying that no arrests have been made and that those who do not turn up for work on Tuesday will be sacked.
An SMRT source was also quoted by Today as saying that if workers do not have a valid reason, they will be referred to higher management as it's a sit-in and not a law and order problem. The spokesman also adds that no arrests will be made and that police are only on standby.
Channel NewsAsia understands that a doctor is at the Woodlands dormitory to check if the workers have valid reasons to be absent from work.

You underestimate your power leh, you can be more powerful than you thot, this is only my opinon, nothing happen, nevermind, something happen, we might not even know who is looking at this public forum.
Singapore is a multi racial/people society, with it, it gives our govt a upper hand in handling unity within any formation, unlike china or korea, whereby the people are only one,,the chinese or the koreans, they are homogenous.
Therefore within this niche of a multi racial/people society, govt move their chess game in a way to satisfy each groups here and there depending on the situation.
Not being racist, if you go into strike, you think other races will follow you, govt will then sayang the other races and we can all go suck our thumbs.
The modernisation of industrialistion in the 1969 seminar already kill off many hardcore union leaderships who gone missing without a trace, LKY then set up NTUC to look into a new set of industrial relationship base on consultation and proper framework of negiotiation.

It is not smlj also scare, everyone of us got a family to feed, some less, some more, and in Singapore, nobody, I repeat, nobody living in HDB and condos owns a tomato plant, even private house have limited space to plant their coconut or papaya trees.
In another words, we are a resourcefuless nation, the economy depends on services, services of taxis, services of our port, our airport, our banking, our tourism and so on.
The only resource we have is you and me, human.
Unlike malaysia or taiwan, you can just go back kampong and plant jagon, still can survive, no vege, can plant veges in exchange for rice and so on.
HongKong is exceptional, in their older british rule, Taxis are control by mafiaso, when i was there during my seaman days, TD told me, must give protection money and join the gangs, each have their own territorial of controlling. The British careless about their system, took much of their wealth from HK, today, China took over, the situation is different, much different, the people from guangtong, shenzhen, zhu hai and all other around are pouring into HK to seek a living.

If NTA is not doing a good job, we can alway make a complain, but we have to be systematic and do our own homework before going into a battle, we know that they are no good, but now, they have 15,000 membership, more than half cabbies are their members, no good?If you can get 15000 to join LV and each give you a dollar a day, you go figure it out, you might not even be living in mi casa, maybe sentosa cove fit you.
There many cabbies like you and me that need to put food on the table for our family, some even dead for it, and that goes to every jobs, not just cabby, I see colleague die at sea, crushed by forklift, fell down from ship blasting and even kill inside engine room explosion.
As layman, it is only 2016 we look forward to, otherwise, the rich will get richer, the poor gets poorers, and the poor cabbies will get more expliotation by the flick and switch of some LTA goondos who knows nothing about Taxi driving
