Without the season festival which helped to mark up the GDP to 1.3++% for the last quarter from sept to december, we are actually under technical recession, meaning a 2 quarters of downtrend.In the coming years, the first quarter might see, being optimistic, a stable trend, but after the chinese new year, thing might taper off.
Singapore share market is having a slight bull run the moment, this prove that our economy and financial haven is still much appreciated to many richs who are facing problem else where to park their money in our stock market.
Then with the reduction of cars on the road this coming years, public transport like taxis can actually make a run for the money. However, with the MOM directives of reducing foreigners that eventually making us less competitive, we might also see less investment and therefore less peoples.
Overall, not to worry, as long as it is not a epidermic like SARs or a total financial or oil crisis, moderately, we should be OK and able to survive.
Having said that, thru the Xmas and New Year, most would had spent most of their money in shopping, travelling and enjoying foods, couple with expenses with school going childrens..most people are now feeling the hole in their pocket, and that translate into lesser pax and therefore making a hole in our pocket too

in recession, diesel price down, coe, properties prices down, closing down sales...etc if still hv same no. of paxs to carry, that wud ideal situation... but unlikely to see unless yr in mrt, buses, civil service, food biz...recession proof

Recession, as termed, is a time of recess, everything needs a break, without such a break, there will be no way of blooming. Let take it as a break period from the norm and wait for the good times to come.
Unlike other business, taxi is much of a domestic market kind of business, just like selling chicken rice, it will not go away, some business like making biscuit or low end production and manufacturing are gone for good after a recession. It is subsituted with higher end job that demand skill and qualified people like the pharmceutical, biotech, financial centres and new servicing sectors
