Two cabbies sacked for reckless driving
Published on Jan 08, 2013TWO ComfortDelGro taxi drivers have been sacked for reckless driving after another motorist filmed them wildly swerving into each other's lanes in an apparent bout of road rage.
The 30-second video clip was posted on citizen journalism website Stomp on Sunday. The incident took place on the Pan-Island Expressway.
The video began with one ComfortDelGro taxi flashing its high beam at the taxi in front of it. Both vehicles were in the right lane.
When the taxi in front moved to the middle lane, the second taxi drove up alongside and then abruptly cut into its lane.
This forced the first taxi to swerve out of the middle lane to avoid a collision.
Then the driver of the first taxi responded in kind, swerving into the right lane and forcing the second taxi to veer out towards the road divider.
The two taxis then split up before the video ended. It is not known if either cab was ferrying passengers when the incident took place.
ComfortDelGro has since terminated the hiring agreement of both drivers.
Its spokesman Tammy Tan said: "We do not condone such reckless driving."
The post and video have since drawn more than 13,000 views and 40 comments.
Netizens called for further action to be taken against the two errant drivers, such as revoking their taxi vocational licences.
The Straits Times understands that the two drivers have committed an offence under the Road Traffic Act for reckless or dangerous driving. If convicted, they can be fined up to $3,000, jailed for up to 12 months, or both.

You see my dear chief, at times peoples dwell in a well too long and forget that there are others thing more nicer and wonderful or peaceful out of that well, so they go around the taxis well, from cdg to TC to this and that, and then back again and repeat again.
But once they are force out of the well, they might see, eh...outside also good mah, can also do this and that, peng bak kut, drive casket, buy food for jurong island companies for $40 per companies..and so on.
Drive taxis again and repeat that kind of challenging anger on the road again? mai lah, it is not about wu tai chi or bo tai chi, it is also about safety, about own life and stress.
