usually i am more of a lurker than contributor, i enjoy my daily dose of the forum, but sometimes find it difficult to contribute. But thought i would pen my thoughts after 3 months on the road.
started out driving the SMRT Ssangyong, and just returned the kim gu last week and joined the dark side(blue). was driving for smrt a good idea? was driving OMO(i did for a month) a good idea? was driving a limo taxi for a start a good idea? haha seriously the seniors in the forum advised against it, but i already sign on the dotted line so went ahead.
as a newbie, everything also dunno no strategy no guidance, just force my way through haha now think back really think i am dumb, but at least gain experience fast and learn the tricks of the trade fast also.
before i started out, i did ask around in the forum but i was very unfortunate to reach out to the wrong person(ah guan or lv 22 or 25 kid whatever you guys r calling him now hehe). he really turned me wrong way around man...very pushy in selling me a walkie talkie, change money (small change) for me and print name cards and really hard sell LV membership to me. so i avoided him and decided to start driving my own way.
i joined an airport group doing staff transfers and started to drive night shift. at first dun dare to take limo bookings yet. slowly develop my own style of driving and slowly adapt money making strategy.
my experiences -
OMO very tiring, cannot sustain for long time, for those omo, my hats off to you dunno how you guys can sustain it. drive long hours and bear all the rental very siong. the taxi companies didnt design their schemes for the OMOs.
fuel consumption damm bloody important. especially if you drive long hours and distance. my average consumption for the kim gu is 85 bux a day....minus the rental of 111 sometimes i work 14 hours to bring back 80 bux net :p bleah, granted fri sat and sun got many kangtao and can make money, mon to thurs really OBK....
i realise call support damm impt...i know many seniors dun think so, sweeping is the key, knowing where to pick etc, but for newbie when still learning, call support is an important factor to making that connection to maximise the time.
knowing how to use the GPS was very impt for me, while learning the roads to familiarise myself, i relied on gps, came to the point where on my iphone i can drive and key in the location and find it without even looking at the screen...haha. now after 3 months i am very familiar with all the east side locations, still learning central part of singapore and west and north still needs work.
after about a month of driving, my dad joined me and now we operate as a team, which i can tell you is a god damm relief! now can enjoy driving and earn a hell lot more. to people starting out, dun be omo at the start, kill youself only. start as relief, or super relief, slowly after you establish then if you wan to consider omo and you got the right cab company for your driving style then omo.
strategy is damm important, technology also damm impt. there are apps on the iphone like cabs@changi and gps software as well as traffic information which can guide us as to where to go when at ap, where to avoid etc. i also realise that joining a group like LV can also provide that info. everyone have different way of driving, gotta find the correct strategy to suit your driving style!
now after 3 months of driving, would like to join LV, can i get some advice on this?
cheers
hi bro ,
need yr advise om airport group.
this week i getting my kim gu also .
mind to pm me .
Ok +1 for finish reading..........
Good luck TS, I no more driving, can't advise much, but Gimgu jiak you very high.........
My advise, if really interested to drive limo........get 4 seated Mercedes cab or 7 seated Maxi cab.........or currently hot pie, Vellfire.........
The rest, not recommended..........
Want to drive limo but still enjoying sweeping the floor.......get the blackie, $5 plus $0.33 will override any negative issue on driving 1..........
As for sampan........the question of OMO or relief again.........
Want to join LV, tonight they got kopi session at Lavender.........quick go down while stock last..........
haha i return my kim gu liaoz now driving sonata, normal cab so much easier, dun get reject at taxi stand and people actually flag me now hahahaha

bro....let me share with you, you r exactly where i was 3 months back....i also thought take kim gu tong first.... seriously dun do it. i took my tvdl at smrt i thought never mind take kim gu at least got all the incentive....
ok let me list down things
1 - kim gu dammmm fuel hungry people pump 30-40 bux u pump 60-70 bux 30 bux a day = 900 a month this is no bloody joke.
2 - other than friday sat and sun and pub holiday dun expect ANY call support. no +18 no +10 hell no +3.30 except during peak hours a few....
3 - kim gu car and engine got lots of prob, my classmates 5 of us took kim gu, 4 return liaoz...
4 - now lull period, airport u q 3 4 hours get one job 60 pts...u go taxi stand kena reject, roadside people dun flag u....

Correct hor........
The gim ku swallow you up hor.........
yeah, not ashamed to say kena swallow by kim gu, after taking and develop my driving style, i realise i probably only 10% of my total jobs is mpv job, like that take kim gu and pay all the fuel cost extra for what?
now driving sonata, fuel also good, people flag, taxi stand no reject, call support also there. easily earn 25 to 40% more than what i was earning driving kim gu...
not to say kim gu is bad just that need kangtao and need time to develop that kind of kangtao, also need to have that type of driving style. for me i dun have that style. i just point a to point b driver, no like to talk so much to passenger.
me one yr plus otr also no kantao
taxi paxs kantao 9 out of 10 buay kan one lan
all dont want to pay call charge
I spoken to u right ? Eugene ?
yeah not too late to find the right path . . .Sonata is one of the right path i can say .
Good luck . . . .U focus on sonata for now ,lakeview 6 months later come n ask me .
i told u liao , omo cannot one .
if only those newbies listen to me , like eurocab listened to my pointer , wont be so difficult liao .
Eurocab now happy driving a skoda . Since day 1 took tvdl . Not likely he will change to other made for now .
when a master point u to one direction , seldom u'll lost your ways . Newbies need seniors to point those right directions to them .

Hi bro
You can join CDG relief scheme 1st. If i'm not wrong, the 1k deposit can by installament.
Earn daily expenses & while at it, can slowly pick up skills too.

we don’t sell membership here, can only let you know how LV works
Yah, we are not PAPpies...... dun sell citiz....i mean membership..... like that 25 kid make sooo many people tulan....kenna pok.......
i prefer road sweeping, its a strategy, u have to learn to the play game, i notice many taxi like to play the one tire game, that is delibrately protude his tire onto ur lane to stop you from overtaking him, unless u cut to the first lane. and u have prepare to accelerate, bec most taxi at the third or fouth lane will eventually be block by buses or turning vehicle.
no choice, actually i dun like to play games, just beysong some reckless sonata driving style, so play games with them. other than that, im quite ethical driver..
