I think this is something Diesel Engine Drivers will be interested in.
Some doing 14 km per litre. Some doing 9 km per litre.
So,.. what is the secret.
Yes the engine age and condition plays a part,
but how can we as drivers do some simple things to make the engine go that extra mile,... errh, kilometer.
Please share, whether it's a special additive, or some home made trick or getting the mechanic to do something special.

I read somewhere that people pour some petrol into their Diesel tank.
Will this help to clean the system?
Will it damage the system?
I use to deal in car accessories...
Magnets do not work period ( Snake Oil)
Additivities are questionable ...
Some leave sediment build up in the Petrol tanks.
Use with caution ...

Less than half day service, Power super, good mileage, and no black smoke.

Why high consumption? simple
Because of aging, piston rings worn, liner bore worn result in fuel slip thru, on the other hand carbon built up at the piston head cover and liner can also result in reduction of space for combustion, resulted lack of power and therefore stepped more on the fuel pedal.
Of course, the best is to overhaul the engine, but that take time and expensive, overhauling the most is once in a life time for car, overhaul twice, something is very wrong, pte car half overhauling already cost nearly 5k, full about 10 to 12k, parts change not yet included, and if need to change piston rings, pistons and casket, it could amount to more than 15k, that is why, most car at 8 or 9 years, changed, some 5 years changed liao. Engine overhauling is like human going for heart operation, you dun go heart operation often.
So, those who want to buy 2nd hand car, please look the engine,
One method is use mineral oil and run the engine on the road for 500 to 1000km, then change it to normal oil, do not do engine flushing which is alway recommend, it will end up more fuel usage.
The engine is like a human heart, it take time to warm up, you cannot keep jogging it, like some at ap, stop off engine, then on again, it work more hard and in long run, worn out faster, if you flush it, it is like cleaning the drain with chemical, the drain cement also wash away, yes the drain become very smooth for water to flow, and imagine your fuel will flow like water...
Like a human heart, time to rest, it must rest, best is constant timming, 6 hrs rest per day in between shift.
And for reverse gear, give time for it to change before reverse, imagine you suddenly turn around, sure to fall, in long run, crankshaft worn faster or even crack, then god bless us all.
To check engine, on engine for a minute, keep looking at the cooling container, if bubble come out, engine leaking air liao...no good. This is call bubble test, if no overhaul, engine get heated up more easily. High rpm will be needed to run a hot engine, and that translate to more fuel use.
Understand that most of the additives out there do not work because the diesel we buy already have those additives added in.
But if there is a special one, that is different from the others,... maybe can give it a try.

All fuel are formulated to suit the car, any additional stuff is not necessary, in fact it will only give higher combustion, and your piston is still worn will worn more, so in a short run, back to square one, worst, piston rings worn faster.
1985~1987 When we are running the FH 88 Prototype in Live Firing Area, Fuel consumption is one of our main concern. We can continues bull the Lardon (FH 88 Prototype name) for 96 Hours Non-Stop beside change Tester and Top Up Diesel.
We try all ways out to whacked our Lardon to test every Fuck thing we can think of.
Including Magnetize Fuel, Result show a Good Magnetization fuel system can save up to 30% of fuel. But the BIG BIG Ah Sir Kia Si dun approved (Because this is DPM Lee Hsien Loong Project, Every 3~4 Months, he will come to company for Project Status Update), So we only used that on our owned Toyota / Datsun etc.
