SINGAPORE: Taxi drivers can now turn to a new handbook to get useful reminders and tips on how to avoid being a victim of crime.
The handbook aims to heighten taxi drivers' awareness towards their personal security and safety.
The free handbook has a checklist to help taxi drivers recall critical information in the event of a crime and a directory of neighbourhood police centres.
It also has tips on how to spot counterfeit notes.
The handbook will be distributed through all taxi firms over the next two weeks.
Ang Hin Kee, adviser at National Taxi Association, said: "We are concerned for (drivers’) safety because they are out there to make a livelihood for their families. So, family members are also equally concerned. So, what we want to urge passengers and the public in general is to be conscious that drivers are out there to provide service and they are there to also look after their families."
Taxi driver Albert Ong said: “"With this handbook, it teaches us a lot of tips, how to handle situations, there is police information, how to prevent crime… Your life is more important. So whenever you drive you always think that tomorrow you need to go home and see your loved ones."
A good move in right direction
but more harsher penalties for those that skip fares, physical abuse or rob TD.

Just a hand book nia ? Imo a set of clear written rules and the laws ,panalties must be there enforce to protect every taxi driver. NTA must do more than handing out books and words..
Drive a over 100+rental cab already stress out the drivers.. worst still can kana wrack by pax : ( alots of unreported cases never count yet also..
Handbook is a guide , better than nothing .
A guide , general practise we should follow .
Maybe some guide infos were collected from here , LOL ......
End day , i still felt we have to help ourself for most of the time . or get help from palringo group .
Be safe than sorry ...... sorry will be once u report to the 999 force .
Once reported to 999 , i will be very sorry to u .
Cos it'll never work .
Whack first then say , might work better .
Use a stinger !!!!
handbook other than telling you to report police , what else they will teach u to do ?
They should have laws and rules to prevent exploitation of taxi drivers by Commuters and Taxi Companies

To me, this hand book is teaching nothing new
For show only, never tackle the more urgency matters
That drivers are facing on the road, call police kam Jan?
So many reported cases on td, how many percent solved ?
When kena ahchangko/ assault can use the handbook and throw at the assaulter...
The handbook is really a joke... the (door gift) that uncle CT got for us last night is a much better defensive tool althought it's meant for female self defense in the the state...
As for night drivers, we should always be prepared when situations arrises and make sure those who tries to be funny wif us TDs remember for life they should not mess wif us again!

Mentor Pool, Pls read this news:
More than 60 police officers staked out to catch a man who robs the elderly.
Accordingly to The Straits Times online, police officers staked out at MRT stations and pawnshops all over the island for three days to catch a man who robs elderly women.
53-year-old Lim Choon Gui was finally arrested near Bedok MRT station.
The man had allegedly robbed more than ten elderly women between their 60s to 80s. He would attack his victims in lifts by pushing them and snatching the gold chains they were wearing. He would then make a run for it and try to sell the loot at nearby pawnshops.
The robberies took place between 24 May to 25 June this year in housing estates including Bedok, Tampines, Ang Mo Kio, Hougang and Toa Payoh.
Can you imagine 60+ police officer to involved, Just to catch a lift robber.
That's almost the whole SPF “G” Division, Maybe DAC How KH oso involved.
dun want to say lah ......
used the stinger !!!!
I not telling you to see one time sting one time , we dun do that .
Anyone prepare to run fare , and if i still can manage to track or chase them , prepare to eat my stinger !
If 3 person open door and ran , i wont chase 3 , i target one weak link and chase after just one .
stinger one jiak lat jiak lat .
Some football tackle technics might require sometimes .
Aiya, frankly I also think our police force are not proactive enuf, they alway wait for game over then arrive, see many time at BQ and CQ, those si ginas fighting, police just outside river valley road, all in their vehicle, then when si ginas fight until gao gao liao, they slowly drive in and clear the crowd, make report, call ambalance, interview a few and then wait for 6am, shift ended.
But then, they can be good to scare those foreigners and si ginas, yo, dun mess with Uncle hor, I call police hor..FTs diam diam

but there were just too many loopholes in the law , red tapes ............ that created those problems for us .
