Are you a qualified voter?
SINGAPORE: 22,129 Singaporeans have checked their names in the Registers of Electors as of January 20.
The Elections Department said it has received 12 claims and seven objections.
Claims can be filed with the Registration Officer by anyone who considers himself qualified to be an elector as on January 1, but does not find his name in the correct Register of Electors or in any Register of Electors.
Objections can be filed with the Registration Officer by an elector to object to the inclusion of his name or another person's name in a Register of Electors of the same constituency as his.
So far, 92 people have applied for the restoration of non-voters' names.
These can be filed with the Registration Officer by non-voters who failed to vote in the 2006 General Election or any of the past elections and have not applied to restore their names to any Register of Electors.
The latest update also has 879 applications for registration as overseas electors.
Singaporeans who have yet to check their names in the Registers of Electors are reminded to do so before January 27.
Singaporeans can check it at http://www.elections.gov.sg.
Registration for overseas Singaporeans will be suspended once a Writ of Election is issued.
This is the third revision to the registers since the last elections in 2006.
Registers have to be revised no later than three years after every general election.
Observers have said the revisions are meant to include as many eligible voters as possible, before the next polls, due by February 2012.
As of March last year, there are about 2.3 million registered voters.
The latest registers will contain the names of those who can qualify to vote as on 1st January 2011.
In another sign of impending elections, the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee was convened in October.
This committee examines the growth of the voter population and recommends the number of electoral wards as well as their boundaries.
According to past timelines, the committee takes anything from two to seven months to come up with its report.
Once the report is released, Parliament will have to be dissolved.
There is no legal requirement for Parliament to be dissolved within a certain time frame after the release of the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee Report.
However, past elections have placed the timeline from between five months and just 17 days.
Once Parliament is dissolved, elections must take place within three months.

General election likely in Q2 this year: George Yeo
The next general election is not due till February 2012, but Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo said it could be in the second quarter of this year.
Mr Yeo, who is in Bangkok for the Civil Service Exchange Programme, was speaking at a dinner organised by the Singapore Club and the Singapore-Thailand Chamber of Commerce.
He said he has been advising party members to be prepared after the Budget debate in March.
Mr Yeo, who is also the MP for Aljunied GRC, has ruled out the third quarter because of the Presidential Election which is due by August.
"Pity that you can't vote here, but it is a short distance away from Singapore, maybe some of you will go back. And you, if you live in Aljunied GRC, I hope you will know what to do," Mr Yeo quipped, drawing laughter from the audience.
The minister also spoke about developing an ASEAN identity, saying the idea of bidding for the 2030 World Cup could bring the region together.
But there would be many obstacles, he added. "We in ASEAN, 600 million people, can collectively cough up eight to ten world class stadiums. The distances are no worse than, say, soccer stadiums in Brazil, so why can't we make this attempt?"
He also said member countries could work towards fielding a joint team in 20 years' time.
He said: "I told the other foreign ministers - we (should) make our bid before China, because if China says it wants 2030, if it says it before us, I think we will be at a disadvantage.
"But if we say it before China, then China may have to "rang bu", give way, then ASEAN goes first since they want to be good friends with ASEAN."
At a recent retreat for ASEAN foreign ministers in Lombok, Indonesia, member countries also agreed to fly the ASEAN flag alongside their national flags at overseas missions on ASEAN Day, which is August 8. This will take place from this year.

General Election can only fall during school holiday when many facilities are available......
I hope this round the PAP will not engage the uncle/auntie or goondu from the grassroot organization to go along with them. Yes no doubt some of the grassroot leaders are PAP members but for fair play....The constituency office or PA Staff should not be involve in anyway. Last time election, all the goondu just follows the MP.
Heard many PAP members receive their membership renewal notices. Not sure if this notice can be use as an benchmark whether there will be helpers in the next GE.
If many renew the membership it means that indication of helping is there.
With so many heartache policies and with us living in a chaotic world the voters will know what is good for them. After all, we are living in the "LAST" days. A matter of fact, there's no perfect system on earth.
It can also fall on a saturday. But if its really a chosen public holiday, I'd say 22nd April. But that's just stupid.

7 May is the most possible. The election back in 2006 was on 6 May.
29 May is the least possible, it is a Sunday and 2nd day of the June school holidays, when alot of people will be bringing their kids overseas for holidays.

I've not decided on GE date yet: PM Lee
By Evelyn Choo | Posted: 23 January 2011 1859 hrs
SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has not decided when Singapore's General Election (GE) should be.
Mr
Lee said this on Sunday, after a recent comment by Foreign Minister
George Yeo which suggested that polls could be held as early as the
second quarter of this year.
The talk of a General Election has been fuelled by various comments on possible dates.
But
Prime Minister Lee made his stand on Sunday. He said: "It can be next
year, until February. I mean, we haven't decided yet. It's not likely to
be on the same day as the presidential election. But other than that,
there are many possibilities. So I think when it comes, it will come.
There's always a lot of excitement. I don't think it is part of my job
to add to that excitement."
Mr Lee was speaking to reporters on
the sidelines of a walkabout in his Teck Ghee ward. When asked if the
walkabout itself was the start of his political campaigning, he said:
"No, I do this every year, please don't read so much into it!"
He
also said he has yet to receive the Electoral Boundaries Review
Committee report. All eyes are on the report, which draws up Singapore's
electoral boundaries for the General Election.
Once the report
is released, political pundits say it will be a clear sign the General
Election is around the corner. The committee handling this report
convened in October last year.
At another community event at his
Marine Parade constituency, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong also weighed
in on possible General Election dates and made his preference known.
He wants it to be before the presidential election due by August this year.
He
said: "You can argue both ways, but my preference would be, if PM seeks
my view, is to hold it before the presidential election. Get the issues
out of the way, and leave the presidential election without issues."
The past three presidential elections have not been held in the same year as the General Election.
Mr
Goh was also asked if he would run for the presidency, to which he
replied "no", and said he would continue running as a candidate for
Marine Parade GRC.

Damn it, i am getting impatient, when is the GE really cumming, I WANNA VOTE!!!!![]()
How come election day is announced by PM and not the elections department? And he's keeping his cards close to his chest, very obviously. The signs are there....civil service personnel sent for training, pictures of MPs taken, register of voters updated etc.
The GE has to be before the president election in August. Budget debates end in March. Give ang pow in April. Hold GE in May. Take a break in June. From July to August, prepare for president election.
PAP has a history of not holding the GE near to the deadline. The deadline for this GE is 1 Feb 2012.
2006 was the last elections... lol... and i missed it just by a few months.... now going 25... havent voted before.
IMO, date isn't important as long as opposition can stay out of trouble while old farkin lee still shoot his mouth off and blunders still continue to plague PAPist and the number of new citizens remain low.
I can only hope the outcome will save Sinkapore.
Then again, the delay means that PAPist still actively trying to add more new citizens to their side, really, I don't think any citizens in their own country in the world would even dreamt that a government such as ours exists, all this citizen genocide commited, just to stay in power.
This country is rotting beneath all the huge shopping centres and condominums, this country is on the highway to HELL and we got to blast the bastards PAPist to shreds.
