I don't expect PAP to change if they have it in their everlasting agenda/plan money making is the main reason why they exist.
We need an opposition to be ready and willing to form the next government.

That is why I said they have to get ready. PAP will have to play a part to help them.

“This is democracy, the voters in Punggol East have decided that the Workers’ Party is the better party to serve them and I congratulate Ms Lee Li Lian to be the MP to serve them,” said Dr Ng on the sidelines of a community event this morning.
What do you think?
Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen is right. If GE was called, the result may be difference. He should advise PM to call for GE soon so to take back Punggol East. I support him.

if aljunied GRC can fall, why not the rest of the GRCs, east coast and marine parade GRCs almost felled to the opposition in 2011 too..
cause TPL already marked her territory near there.
there after ppl dont trust pap so much alr
It took 2 elections, and all the eggs of WP in one basket to dethrone aljunied. How many eggs do you think WP have, and have to put out again just to sustain keeping aljunied, and another GRC?

there will be new blood
that's why i say good promising oppositions should each take a bite off PAP's silly prided GRCs and SMCs!
NSP is aother promissing one. take ECP and other SMCs like pioneer!
it will give the major opposiotns a breather space also.
more oppositons PAP will be scared!
SDP is really a failure. it will take longer and also the poor image of JSC off the party to make it good aagin.

They have sufficient guns for at least one more GRC and an SMC.
Glenda Han and Gerald Giam, for instance, are pretty capable young people who fought the close fight in East Coast. Add that newly-recruited professor, and that makes for some really good eggs in a basket.
Yee Jenn Jong by himself nearly got Joo Chiat as well (~48%).
The issue now is what WP will do now to prove their worth. Of course, they're in serious trouble if they mismanage Aljunied and Punggol East. But if they can show that they can get the job done, then an expansion into Joo Chiat and East Coast is not out of the question.
Workers' Party chief Low Thia Khiang cautioned the public against reading too much into opposition group's election victory in Punggol East.
"We can't take the by-election result as one that is going to be a trend in the future," Low told reporters Sunday before going on a parade to thank voters for giving party candidate Lee Li Lian a decisive win at the polls on Saturday.
Lee garnered 54.5 per cent of the votes cast whereas the ruling People's Action Party's candidate got 43 per cent. Two other opposition candidates got less than 2 per cent of the votes combined.
"I think you have to look at the Punggol East results in perspective. People in Punggol East had no worries about accidentally throwing out the government," he pointed out.
Low, who during the campaign asked that residents vote for WP to give the PAP a wake-up "slap", said voters were willing to give the WP the mandate to make sure the PAP did its job,
He noted that the government has started to review policies but that the changes need time to take effect.
WP's role, he said, based on the message of voters, was to act as a check and balance to the government.

that explain why WP is not my favourite. don't really trust them.

Fully agree. they have to prove that they can mange. of course there will be many obstacles and also need for money funds. i hope WP is seriously looking a walking the talk and put in their best efforts. with sincerity and heart for the people, i am sure they can overcome the odds. this will also serve as a good example for other promissing oppsitions.

Mr low thia kiang is being realistics. if he has the power and control of funds like the PM lee, he wont be giving this humble speech during wins.
if he has the means and resources - he will fight, we will fight, everyone who is sgrean will!
you want low to fight? give him the support in during his office and if he prove his worth and is trying very hard, give him the mandate agin next GE or any possible BE that comes by!

Saying he was still around to do his best despite his loss Saturday, People’s Action Party candidate Dr Koh Poh Koon gamely went on a tour of Punggol East Sunday morning to thank residents and supporters.
At the gathering site at the PCF Punggol East Education centre Sunday for the thank you parade, Koh told reporters he would wait for Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s decision before seeing where else he could contribute.
Soon after the Punggol East by-election results were announced, Lee said he intended to field Koh again in a future election so that the colorectal surgeon could be part of his team to serve Singapore.
Regardless of what the prime minister decides, Koh said that the branch will continue serving the residents.
“We have built some bond here,” the 40-year-old said.
Looking calm and cheery even though he said he barely got a night’s rest, he also noted that there was a need for PAP to “sit down and look at the results and think deeper”.
Koh received 43 per cent out of the 29,415 votes cast while Workers’ Party candidate Lee Li Lian garnered over 54 per cent of votes. Lee made history by being the first woman opposition elected into the parliament.
On the tour, Koh was accompanied by MP and Minister of State for Trade and Industry Teo Ser Luck, and other PAP members who appeared just as jovial as Koh on board the PAP parade bus.
As the PAP team waved to the residents, some waved back and others told them it was “okay”. The atmosphere was calm as the candidate puts on a spirited face.
Though passersby waved back, no PAP flags were seen carried around by residents. No PAP supporter was seen waiting for the tour bus to arrive either. Many blue umbrellas and flags representing the WP party, however, could be found.
Koh, however, said they put up a good fight. “We garnered 43 per cent of the votes having been on the ground for two weeks. I thought that wasn’t too bad,” he noted.

@Stayer, didn't notice until you point out. Yes, they are on top of a double decker with comfortable seats. No wonder they are so out of touch with the citizens.. Sign...
LLL have 3.5 years to get things right.
If she could not do it, dragon can still take the SMC back from her in 2016.
