Employer fined $5,000 for slapping maid

SINGAPORE : She slapped her maid for dipping her fingers into a
pot to get a piece of lady's fingers to eat.
For that, 71-year-old Ang Geok Choo was fined $5,000 by a district court
on Wednesday.
The court heard that in June last year, the maid Ms Peppy Meganingsih
was helping the widow in the kitchen of a condominium in Bishan.
Ang was preparing a pot of curry at the time.
When the elderly woman turned her back, the 24-year-old maid dipped her
fingers into the pot to get a piece of lady's finger to taste.
Ang was livid when she saw this.
She scolded Ms Meganingsih then slapped the maid on the cheek.
On Tuesday, the widow admitted to the assault. A similar charge was also
taken into consideration, the court heard.
She could have been fined $7,500 or jailed up to three years for the
