When rental increase, stall holders pass the cost to the consumer.
Whenever anything increases, consumers suffer.

who else can put ERPs but Tpt Minister Raymond Lim?

NO wonder hawkers gave him that treatment, he deserves it. Many don't like him, implemented stupid and greedy policies which benefit only one side.

....to earn money.
I don't think keeping rental low will raise the quality of hawker food.
More likely low rental would mean the lousy hawkers can survive and continue to dish out their so so food.
Too high a rental, and they can't make a decent profit, which would then defeat their purpose of going into business in the first place.
The balance must be there.
The hawkers must take steps to improve their food, and charge a premium for it. Or go bust.
An eating place near me have upgraded its premises, and must also have upped the rental. The average price of dishes there is now $3.00.
I see the Malay stall now can survive. It serves better qualilty Malay food at $3.50 to $5.00. The Chicken Rice stall will be a casualty soon. It sells $2.00 quality chicken rice for $3.00, sure die one. No more mama rojak stall, selling roti prata and mee goreng because this type of stall never improve one.
Bad point about increased rental is kopi/teh lousy as hell, increased from 80 cents to 90 cents, and must queue for it.
Keep rental low to employ sporean workers.
