Bio-hazard.
SINGAPORE: The haze enveloping Singapore has hit the unhealthy range.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) says the 3-hour PSI reading at 6pm was 108, after crossing over the 100-mark at 5pm.
NEA
says that when the air quality is in the unhealthy range, those with
underlying conditions such as chronic heart or lung ailments may
experience a mild aggravation of their symptoms.
Those without underlying conditions may also experience eye irritation, sneezing or coughing.
It advises those with underlying conditions to reduce physical exertion and outdoor activities.
But
since the haze started clouding the skies on 16 October, the number of
people visiting the polyclinics for upper respiratory tract infections
has not risen.
Figures provided by SingHealth showed that some
1,300 patients visited its polyclinics with such complaints on Monday,
some 1,000 on Tuesday and 940 on Wednesday.
The figures were similar to last week's attendance.
NEA said on Wednesday that Singapore can expect more hazy days ahead.
It also said that hot spot activities in Sumatra are expected to persist or escalate.

aiyah.........all the people use haze as excuse to go clinics get MCs only lah................
Hiaz, U ppl all talking about PSI ('PM10').
Like MOH, forget about other equally if not more important: 'PM2.5'.
Breathe in too much haze and those SGporeans who CAN AFFORD bypass will follow in the steps of health minister:
Those SGporeans who cannot afford, perhaps they can take another Minister's (MTI) advice: "Switching to cheaper products can reduce the cost of living despite a rise in the CPI."
Haha.
Yeah, LHK's quote prob taken out of context but with MOH's blatant denial about PM2.5, would you be surprised if LHK's response would prove true in the future, more so for citizen healthcare that MOH has failed to protect?
And yeah, in the absence of more concrete action: funding, education, (provision of education regarding more sustainable farming methods, infrastructural improvements) I doubt much would be achieved in regard of the haze situation by any SEA country.
SG Minister's salaries not withstanding of course.

Please lah, these are either poor tribal peoples/ companies that clear land for agri.
The first practices slash n burn as part of their culture, the second does the same to clear land for agri cheaply (illegally).
Whilst the 2nd might be guilty of illicit profiteering, I believe one significant problem is with educating the former. Pls note that these village folk have no access to municipal electricity not water supply and less so internet not formal education.
Slash and burn agri. is in their culture despite its unsustainability and polutiveness.
These are poor tribal people with an ingrained culture, but for for lack of proper facilities and education, their habits remain unlikely to change.
Given that 'One Singapore resident's ecological footprint equals that of 33 Africans' , Singaporeans should be patient and supportive of Indonesia's efforts at reducing forest fires. Perhaps the best and most sustainable way of protecting our environment is to bring development in the form of education, better sanitation and living conditions to the Indonesian tribal people. SG must quickly develop and spread the message of conservation as well as the virtues of reduce, reuse and recycle. Organic (sustainable) farming methods and an overall improved quality of life (QOL) would go miles both in environmental conservation as well as in terrorism control.
Make the Indonesian tribesman happy and he will cooperate and listen.
Hating 'em and their govt will do little if nothing to solve this ugly situation.

I also not educated. so i here write the words "stupig selfish Indon primates, wake up the idiot ideas".
if their gahmen enforce and put on heavy penalties for the people burniing crops or just buy in or araange for proper disposal of the cut down then no burning required. no matter how uneducated they are don;t tell me they don;t know the smoke also affects their own country men and people? this is a very selfish act and really we shoudl escalate to international court for the act of genocide, killing people slowly by breathing in unhealthy air! its straight pollution! selfish gahmen slefish people, asa result their own people suffer and the air come to us we suffer. for all the countries aroudn the world did to help them in their crissis they chosethis to repay us.
S-leagues matches cancelled at the very last minute owing to haze.

Too late liao, now already past midnite, most of them sleeping.
Can we complain and ask for mediation from the world body like UN?
forest fires caused a lot of harm to the ecosystem and to both environment and people's health, esp those with asthma and breathing problems....
