first of all, it was no simple staring incident. secondly, the hanging of these 5 will send a strong message out against gang violence. Not a matter of wu hua or bo hua.

The police are investigating, the court will have several sessions and cross examing will be in process.
When you killed someone, be it one or more than one pple involved, and if proven guilty, one or more will have death sentences. And whether that deceased is at fault or not, when you kill, you have not stance on this issue.
Just like driving, pple cut your lane, you angry, you horn him, he point middle finger at you. You get more angry and ram your car against him causing him dead. Who's fault?

1. The police have confirmed that it was a gangfight and not a mere staring incident.
2. Even if it had been, what are you trying to say? 'The victim was staring at us' is a legitimate casus belli for murder? Or that it reduces the culpability of the murderers?
3. People in here are thinking rationally. Those five gangsters were the ones who did not. Any reasonable, rational person would know that getting into fights and killing people is a very bad thing, especially if it leads to the death penalty.
Which goes to my next point: the death penalty is not just about punishment, but about deterrence. Yes, it is a very harsh punishment, but it would make all rational people think twice about joining gangs and slashing people to death.
Yes, you might say that those five gangsters were not deterred. However, deterrence only works on rational people like you and me, and we have already long since established that those gangsters were far from rational.
I'm not gleeful at the prospect of all those young people getting hanged to death. But if it deters other young people from doing what they did, then I can't say that it's a bad thing.

Before the underage gangsters want to hao lian with their opposition party, would they worry if they could contract AIDS by cutting each other out for blood transfusion by accident? Are they heavily insured in the medical insurance policy for long-term hospitalization should they become paralysed for whole life due to riot, nay, "gangster war"? LOL! If they are not hanged, they may be sent to be with Mas Selamat or lassi lomak as sleeping partners for many donkey years till they become an unmarried useless Ah Pek or Ah Chek when they are finally released in 20 or more than 20 years' time. Might as well be the animals in the zoo than in Changi Prison.

Our government should follow the law of some states in America where underage murderers could be sentenced to death by... for heinous juvenile crimes committed. Sometimes, we need to be cruel to be kind to our own clean society before it may become worse off as year goes by. Every year, each and every school principal in Primary and secondary schools should convey the message in simple words once every month to remind all school children not to commit murder due to whatever reasons. It's imperative to change the law against junvenile crimes and let the advice enter into the ears of these youngsters all the time. We must first stop all the bully boys right now!

One killed someone, one has to pay for their life.
And I hope it is a death penalty for the convicted gang with 'Intention to KILL'.
The young gangsters are getting more and more daring now. Take knifes or choppers along with them.
And the law should amend to have a more heavy and harsh fine and jail term.
Seem like the law is too soft...
