SINGAPORE : Former
MP for Radin Mas, Mr MKA Jabbar, has died on Saturday morning.
The 77-year-old suffered a stroke after being ill for a few years.
He leaves behind his wife and three children.
Prayers for Mr Jabbar were held on Saturday.
Mr Jabbar became an MP when he won the Radin Mas seat in the 1980 General Election.
He was an MP from 1981 to 1984.
He was also the president of the Union of Keppel Shipyard Employees.
In 1984, Mr Jabbar stepped down as MP, saying he wanted to make way for new candidates.
He was President of United Indian Muslim Association from 1990 to 2003, after which he continued to serve as the association's senior advisor.
Mr Jabbar's body left his home for final prayers at An-Nur Mosque at Woodlands and then for Choa Chu Kang cemetery.
Those who knew him say he was selfless.
"He's not a selfish person. He brought in the youth leaders into the community. In 2003 he handed over the baton to the youth leaders like me to continue to serve the community," said Farihullah, president of the United Indian Muslim Association.
"He's a very humble person, approachable anytime, and he is passionate about volunteerism. Anytime you can knock on his door, he will be willing to help us, and help the community as well," he added.
