  More and more joggers are pounding the pavement at night to avoid the heat and crowds

  THE air is cool, the pavements are free of crowds and the relentless sun has been replaced by pale, soothing moonlight.

  No wonder some Singaporeans are choosing to go running at night.

  Some, like Ms Maria Enriquez, do so for an even more important reason - it is the only free time they have.

  The 31-year-old administrator sometimes finishes work late. When that happens, she goes for a run at about 11pm in the serenity of her Spottiswoode Park neighbourhood.

  'My body feels heavy if I don't run. I also have a hard time falling asleep if I don't do so,' she said.

  Retail salesman Iruz Salim, 26, who lives in Jurong, runs about twice a week, from midnight to 2am. 'The air is cooler and cleaner at night and there are fewer vehicles,' he said.

  Even my area, there are many pple jog at night too.

  But not on the road side, around the jogging track.

  Maybe I should join them too.
