Pegaruh bahasa Melayu kreol Baba Nyonya
Hubungan masyarakat Chetti dengan masyarakat Baba Nyonya telah berlaku sejak dahulu lagi. Hubungan tersebut bukan setakat hubungan perniagaan, malah hubungan kekeluargaan dan kejiranan. Terdapat lelaki Chetti yang memilih isteri dalam kalangan wanita Baba Nyonya dan sebaliknya ada juga lelaki Baba Nyonya yang memilih isteri dalam kalangan wanita Chetti. Perkahwinan campur dan hubungan kejiranan ini menyebabkan bahasa Melayu kreol Baba Nyonya memberi pengaruh yang besar terhadap Bahasa Melayu Chetti.
Pengaruh bahasa Melayu kreol Baba Nyonya terhadap Bahasa Melayu Chetti ini dapat dilihat dalam tulisan Ding (2001: 52) yang menghuraikan aspek sosiolinguistik bahasa Melayu kreol Baba Nyonya iaitu sejenis bahasa Melayu kreol di Melaka. Ding menyetakan bahawa bahasa Melayu kreol Baba Nyonya berasal daripada Melayu pasar yang digunakan oleh orang bukan Melayu (Cina, Arab, India, dan Eropah) untuk berkomunikasi dalam perdagangan sejak abad ketujuh lagi. Bahasa Melayu yang digunakan oleh masyarakat Baba Nyonya tersebut telah mengalami perubahan dari segi fonologi, semantik, dan sintaksis. Berikut disenaraikan ciri-ciri fonologi, semantik, dan sintaksis bahasa Melayu kreol Baba Nyonya (rujuk Jadual 3.39). Dapat dilihat bahawa kedua-dua bahasa kreol ini mempunyai persamaan. Ciri dan perubahan yang terdapat dalam bahasa Melayu kreol Baba Nyonya juga wujud dalam Bahasa Melayu Chetti.

- Means: "State of wealth is only proven at death"

- Trans.: As human beings, it is only at our deaths that we can prove how wealthy we have been in life.
- Means: "The grass is greener in one's own backyard"

- Trans.: My temperament is such that once I break up a relationship, there is no chance of a reconciliation.
- Means: "Fortune seems to smile on the well-to-do"
- Usage: Bini orang kaya tu, sudahlah kaya buang sebelah, asa main judi siak misti menang, macham orang chakap di-mana tanah lekok di-situ ayer bergelandong.
- Trans.: That lady who is a rich man's wife always wins when she gambles. It seems that fortune smiles on the well-to-do.
- Means: "Nobody is irreplaceable in love"
- Usage: Dia sua takmo lu, lu toksa takot. Bunga bukan sekuntum, kumbang bukan sekor.
- Trans.: Do not worry that you have been rejected (or jilted). In love, nobody is irreplaceable.
- Means: "To earn just enough to make ends meet"
- Usage: Gua ni bukan kaya chuma macham ayam charek pagi makan petang, charek petang makan malam.
- Trans.: I am not wealthy but earn just enough to make ends meet.
- Means: "The decision lies with the individual"
- Usage: Saja dia mo sama takmo, duri di utan sapa tajamkan, dia tajam seniri.
- Trans.: The decision is entirely up to him.
- Means: "A new found state of wealth that has adversely affected a person's behaivour"

- Trans.: It is not surprising that close colleagues quarrel since even the closest of relationships will have their moments of differences.

- Usage: Kalu dia meniaga gua tak pikir boleh untong, macham orang chakap naik kuda kasap, charek untong modal resap.

- Trans.: It is not fair to blame him because it was not easy for him to come to the decision.

- Trans.: Do not have the impression that I will not be able to tackle the task without your help.
- Means: "One foot in the graveyard; about to die"
- Usage: Sampay kubor pangge mari rumah kata nanti pun prangi dia takleh berubah.
- Trans.: Even when his foot is already in the graveyard, he still will not change his temperament.
- Means: "Nothing is secret"
- Usage: Sapa boleh dapat simpan rusia sedangkan telor macham rapatpun boleh tau temelang kah ta'ah.

- Trans.: She is a busybody who gets herself involved in other people's affairs.
- Means: "Do not take on other people's problems for it will be a thankless act"
- Usage: Tengok gua tolong dia macham manyak dia tak kenair gua, tak salah orang chakap kain basah orang jangan keringkan.
- Trans.: After all my help, he has chosen to forget me. The people were right when they said that taking on other people's problems is a thankless act.
- Means: "A relationship that can never be severed"
- Usage: Dia anak beranak berkelai kita jangan champor pasair, apa macham pun ayer di-tetak takleh putus.
- Trans.: We should not interfere in a family quarrel, for in the long run, their relationship will endure.
- Means: "A gossiper who causes friction between other parties"
- Usage: Pasair hai orang berkelai dia panday sair, orang sambong ayam dia sambong orang.
- Trans.: He is adept at causing friction to develop between parties with his gossip.
- Means: "To yearn for the impossible"
- Usage: Gua pratikan lu ni ada rindukan budak prompuan tu sama ponggok rindukan bulan.
- Trans.: I notice that you are mooning over the girl who is beyond your reach.
- Means: "Of immense wealth"
- Usage: Dulu dia betol senang, kapal di-laot gedong di-darat, ni jam tengok apa dia sua jadi!
- Trans.: At one time he was a very wealthy man. Now look at what he has become!
- Means: "Guilty feelings"
- Usage: Bila gua chakap gua tak sebut nama lu, buatpa lu marah? Sapa makan chili dia rasa pedair.
- Trans.: I did not mention your name in my statement so you should not be annoyed if you are not guilty.
- Means: "Pretend to be innocent"
- Usage: Pasair dia satu rumah tangga luan tapi dia entam batu semunyet tangan.
- Trans.: He is the cause of all the troubles in the household but he pretends to be innocent.
