Smaller flats doesn't mean lower quality of living: HDB CEO

No doubt the quality of living need not necessarily depend only on the square footage of a particular flat. Living standards also depend on the ability of a people to live comfortably in a good environment, with modern comforts of home, like laundry washing machines and dryers, rather than having to hang out our laundry on bamboo poles to flap and dry in the sun. Has HDB made provision for such living quality? It also means having very good maintenance and ensuring that flats do not have half the common corridor ways occupied by pots of various sizes or even junks. Has HDB effective control over this? It also means good designs and a variation in designs, taking into consideration practical/optimal usage as well as aesthetics in layouts and configuration of units.Has HDB done this? It is interesting that the HDB CEO made comparison of the number of people living in a flat today as compared with a generation or two ago. She seems to equates quality of living also with the number of people in the unit(3.5 in 2010) citing that there are lesser people in a unit now as compared with before.(4.9 in 1980) Whilst the government is trying very hard to increase the population size of Singapore. Does it mean that to improve the quality of HDB living, Singaporeans should all maintain 3.5 or less number of people in a flat???

I can only say to HDB, if you continue to build smaller and smaller flats- from shoe boxes to soap boxes to match boxes.......maybe the quality of living might improve further from 3.5 persons in a unit to only 2 persons in a unit in 10 years time!

perhaps the first underground HDB could be launched with bigger floor areas....
and maybe much cheaper as there are no views...

Why do the HDB CEO care abt more/less children? From his point of view, as long as he make more money (sell more X and building smaller unit), then his pay and salary will increase. This is the problem when the govt tied public service to dollars and cents as shown what had happen to SMRT. -
the CEO should just shut up if he has nothing good to say, rather than create a topic for people to discuss due to his idiotic comments. usually CEO are a PR disaster, just ask BP and SMRT former CEO.
