I see the future of Singapore as a Smart City would be a disaster and a big mistake. There would be more suffering than happiness among the Singaporeans. More hardship and more unemployment. The cost of living would be more expensive and medical care would be a big problem for Singaporeans and the ruling Government.

There will be more taxi drivers and uber drivers soon. These are the people who would take up these jobs because they have no choice and they do not wish to be control by other people. They are usually those people who are retrenched by companies.

Majority of MNC and local SMEs would move their operations to other countries and they would only have Head Offices in Singapore. This is because it is expensive and unprofitable to have the main businesses operating in Singapore.

There would be more young and old cancer patients in Singapore due to money problems, work stress and food intakes. Singapore would be seen like the most sick nation in this region.

Singapore doctors e.g. Specialists, Surgeons and GPs etcs, would be seen more like Businessmen/women or opportunists rather than compassionate doctors by Singaporeans and countries abroad. This is because they are more interested in making money from their patients. It is already happening right now.

The more the government controls and 'eat' the Singaporean's money (CPF) and the Singaporean's lives (e.g. NS), the more the Singaporeans are going to to be unhappy and angry with the government.

Singaporeans who have overseas properties would not be affected by Singapore's future.

World leaders and politicians outside Singapore could see that the Singaporeans are sufferring and they see Singapore Ministers are not conscientious by having a very high salaries while the Singaporeans are sufferring.

Foreigners know that Singapore city looks very nice and attractive but most Singaporeans have not enough money in their pockets and bank saving accounts. It's like an individual all dress-up very classy with branded goods but their pockets/wallets/bank accounts have no money. They look good on the outside but inside they are sufferring.

Singaporeans and SPRs with children living in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, would send their children to distinguish International Schools at Iskandar Malaysia. Malaysians too would send their children there to study instead of Singapore.

Singapore will be one of the most advance country in Asia, with smart nation technology and there will be clean high yielding industries and farm in the heart land areas, so people don't have to travel to work, but are highly deployable... haha

Singapore will likely contain to be a big financial capital, and will likely continue to grow (especially considering high economic growth in region)

As a non-Singaporean living in SG, I think Singaporeans have a lot to be thankful for, esp. the social order and lack of corruption. For all that most of the young generation view th PAP as insular, I think they've done a good job (so far).
Whether or not more political discourse and opposition is better I think is not as important as whether the general populace are sufficiently well educated and forward thinking on both sides (both incumbent and oppo).
And i hope the US or Malaysian style partisanship and obstructionism doesn't become a thing in my adopted home ever.

But for all the progress and development, there's something I do feel is really lacking compared to others. It's the people / culture. The people aren't very laid back. They are not easy going, which is a way of life that is pervasive in places like HK.
People are just not as happy. Life is stressful. I don't feel it's a happy place for most people. And I feel it has a lot of it has to do with the inherent inequality in the Singaporean society.
IMO, this is one of the things if it eases up, will make SG a lot more perfect.
