We are overcrowded becos' of Govt's foreign workers policy.
U know why are there so many PRC woman in our country? On a typical weekend afternoon, if you visit Chinatown, you will see many uncles with younger PRC woman.
I just found out yesterday that they are conning our SG uncles with MOM's blessings. MOM always said that they will ensure that work permit holders are here to work. If they have ulterior motive and is trying to come here to marry a SG man instead of actually earning an honest living, MOM will take action.
Earlier this year, my elderly widowed father got involved with a PRC who is a work permit holder. To my horror, they recently filed a notice with ROM to get married. When I asked MOM why is the PRC work permit holder allowed to marry a Singaporean, MOM told me that she was granted exemption from marriage restriction policy when she applied for her work permit. In fact, MOM had granted her the exemption when she first came to S,pore this year and gave her a letter specifically stating so. Now, with MOM's encouragement and blessings, my father is going to marry her - some stranger of dubious background that he only got to know a few mths earlier.
When MOM has such policies, some foreigner take the opportunity to come here to look for a lonely SG uncle to con and sink their roots in our country. Why is MOM helping them????
Much better than NYC, HK or Tokyo. More ppl bring more econ power to us no?

Feel that it is still ok. Thinking on another side, if the government doesn't attract foreigners to our country. Who will sustain our population and fuel our economy? Are women going to give birth to more children? If no, can men marry more than 1 wife? As a woman, i definitely will not support polygamy.

i agree

Strong mandate to PAP means indirectly support for population white paper... 6.9million. Looks like I will be staying home even more...
6.9mil is figurative. The intention is more.

more like 30m.
70% approves ...
at least the government is making sure that there is space, by year 2030, to accomodate 6.9 million people in Singapore. :)
actually, the solution is simple:
create more towns (eg. Tampines North, Bidadari, Tengah), create more education opportunities, create more employment opportunities, and increase the capacity of transport. spread out the load, instead of make the place more crowded.
but of course, to do it, is hard.
