It’s not an honour most people would fight over but these unfortunate looking contestants battled it out to be crowned “King of the Ugly”.
Nineteen aesthetically challenged men took part in the “Reign of the Ugly” contest this weekend, which takes place every three years in Bogota, in Colombia.
Entrants of all shapes and sizes competed for the $500 prize in Saturday's showdown, which has the motto "Being ugly pays".
Lack of beauty is clearly in the eye of the beholder as the only requirement for the contest is “being ugly”.
A panel made up of local authority members, a former football referee, a gym executive and a journalist where tasked with judging “the talent, the strength and the fortitude of the ugly”.
The crown went to Jesús Héctor Gallo, whose large eyes and disproportionate ears have earned him the Spanish nickname “Carepalmada”.
The 42-year-old street vendor from Marinilla vowed to “continue to be ugly” as he was crowned the winner of the bizarre event.
