If you want a change from the usual champagne brunches on Sundays, the Four Seasons Hotel's new Weekend Oriental Brunch may be your cup of tea.
Held at Jiang-Nan Chun on Saturdays (11.30am to 2.30pm) and Sundays (10.30am to 3pm), this is a typical Cantonese meal of dimsum items and dishes such as spare ribs flavoured with orange sauce and braised sea cucumber with seafood.
There are 100 items on the menu. Priced at $48 for adults and $25 for children, it includes a free flow of Chinese tea and fruit juices.
If you want a free flow of champagne, just add $40 per person.
The price is not cheap, but you do not get inferior food at the Four Seasons. All the dishes are served the same way as a la carte orders, instead of being laid out on a buffet spread.

Dinner is from 6 to 10.30pm and costs $30+++ for adults and $18+++ for children. Children four and below eat for free.Owned by Ms Vera Lim and Ms Angeline Loh, the eatery has a 138-seat capacity. Tucked away in a corner of King's Arcade, this cosy restaurant is a favourite among the residents along that stretch of Bukit Timah road.
The menu, which is changed every four to six months, offers 91 items and servings are small to enable diners to partake a wider variety of the food. From Mondays to Thursdays, every two adult buffet dinners come with a free item that is not found on the buffet menu.
An a la carte menu is available for those who do not wish to have the buffet. -

This five-year-old restaurant is a pioneer of the Japanese buffet concept. Owned by Mr Charlie Koh, it is packed most of the time as it can seat only 108 diners. Expect a two-week waiting list for reservations.
Salmon is popular here and the restaurant goes through 1.2 tonnes of the fish a month.
Apart from more than 80 items on the buffet menu, Mr Koh occasionally offers diners free seafood soup and some new creations. -

Its a la carte buffet is available only during dinner from 6 to 10pm. Adults pay $30++ while children up to 11 years old pay $20++.
The 44-seater restaurant is three years old but its buffet started only two years ago. The place has a regular crowd, which includes a number of Japanese customers.
The menu has 85 items available, including fresh oysters, which is limited to two per person. Another interesting item on the sashimi menu is Kajiki Maguro (sword fish belly), which is not commonly found.
The menu is changed occasionally according to customers' preferences. -

The brainchild of the operators behind the Fiesta and Kuriya Japanese restaurants, Kuishin-Bo has been around for more than four years. Its buffet was introduced in April last year. It can seat 200 diners and reservation is strongly advised.
Mr John Yek, the division manager, said: 'For restaurants, it is simple. It boils down to the food and that is why it is important for us to maintain the quality.'
Under the supervision of a Japanese master chef, the buffet boasts over 100 items, including the popular kaminabe (Japanese paper pot) and expensive delicacies such as snow crab.
Every 30 minutes, an announcement is made for limited special items, and diners rush to queue for it.
The food is served buffet style, where diners pick their own food from the spread, which changes monthly. -

If you were impressed by London chef Vineet Bhatia's cooking during his visit to Rang Mahal last year, you can go for his encore performance there this week.
The chef, who runs the much-awarded Rasoi Vineet Bhatia in London as well as other eateries in Mauritius, Dubai and Moscow, is in town for a promotion till Thursday.
He is known for his original creations that are based on classic Indian cooking traditions.
Some of his dishes that you can taste are wild mushroom and roasted cumin soup with truffle oil, crispy masala duck and grilled lobster with ginger and chilli.
Lunch tasting menus are priced at $55 per person while the dinner degustation menu is at $110 each. You have a choice of vegetarian and non-vegetarian menus.

PIGGY'S BIRTHDAY MENU
Iggy's one. And to celebrate, the restaurant owned by Ignatius Chan at The Regent Singapore has come up with a special 12-course menu that will be available from Thursday to Sept 15.
The menu is compiled from the many original creations the restaurant has come up with over the past year. Iggy's food is often inspired by what Chan himself eats on his travels abroad.
For the anniversary menu, dishes include interesting items like cold somen tossed in classic caviar condiments; steamed foie gras with tofu in a ponzu scented jus and truffle bun; and Sakura ebi cappellini with konbu and home-made scampi oil.
Each dish offers an interesting mix of flavours and textures that you won't find anywhere else.
The menu is priced at $120, which is lower than the $150 the restaurant normally charges for its smaller, 10-course menu.
Each dish comes in bite-sized portions but there is definitely enough to fill you up.
Be sure to block off at least a couple of hours to enjoy the meal. This is not something to hurry over.

NEW AND SIMPLE
A new eatery in Wheelock Place is simply called The Simple Life, which has a nice ring to it.
Opened on July 1 by the people behind Fish & Co, it serves local hawker fare such as kueh paitee, tahu goreng, chicken rice and prawn noodle soup in modern, air-conditioned surroundings.
Prices range from $5.90 to $6.90 for starters and $8.90 to $13.90 for main courses. Main dishes like chicken rice and nasi lemak come with a choice of local drinks such as bandung, calamansi and barley.

Also new at Wheelock Place is Sun With Moon Japanese Dining & Cafe, which opened on Aug 23.
If the name sounds strange, it's a combination of Japanese Dining Sun, which has its first outlet in Chijmes, with a new concept called Japanese Cafe Moon.
While the Sun half of the new outlet features items such as kamameshi (steamed seasoned rice pot) and half-broiled sushi, the Moon cafe focuses on modern Japanese desserts and drinks made with infused tea.
A meal here would cost you slightly above $30 per person, with the kamameshi, which comes with toppings like beef and salmon, averaging $20 each.
The cafe opens all day from 11.30am to 11pm from Sundays to Thursdays and till midnight on weekends.

September is the month of new introductions at Ah Hoi's Kitchen. From a spanking new a la carte menu to a new set of Magnificent Seven dishes for Sept & Oct, and BBQ by the poolside. There's plenty of choice in styles, flavours and taste for everyone.

Drum roll, please. Singapore's best Peranakan dessert has been found. As part of its 10th anniversary celebrations, InterContinental Hotel named 41-year-old business manager Michael Tan's Peranakan Trifle the runaway winner out of 10,000 entries. A layered dessert of mango cubes, pulut hitam cream and sugee cake topped with pink guava gelatin, the dessert can be had at the hotel's Deli Shop at $5.50 each from Thursday, or as part of Olive Tree restaurant's $28+++ high tea, on Saturdays and Sundays, between 1 and 5pm. -
Prima Tower Revolving Restaurant's crocodile promotion has been so popular that it has been extended by another two weeks until Sept 18. It offers seven dishes using everything from crocodile fillet to trotters and innards. Try the braised crocodile trotter and sweet and sour crocodile rib, both classic Beijing dishes done with a twist. Each dish is priced at $18+++.

If you are wondering why the restaurant is feeling so generous, it's to draw you in to check out its current look. The restaurant at Copthorne King's Hotel, which has been around for more than two decades, was renovated about half a year ago, and now boasts a stylish, contemporary Chinese setting with warm wood-panel touches.

If Sunday brunch is your thing, check out The Dining Room at Sheraton Towers for some new items in its spread. Some of them sound really interesting, such as duck fried rice with foie gras and pan-fried gindara with tomato coulis.
Other dishes include sushi, barbecued lamb rack and interesting dimsum items such as golden shark's fin and wolfberry congee.
There are also special weekly offerings like laksa and mee siam served from live stations. Altogether, there are more than 40 Western and Eastern dishes, among which 12 are new.
The brunch is available every Sunday from noon to 3pm at $48 for adults and $25 for children. It includes a free flow of fruit juices.
If you want to indulge, Charles Hiedsick champagne is going at $10.50 a glass or $48 a bottle.
